BIOGRAPHY	Jawaharlal Nehru was a leader of the socialist wing of the Indian National Congress during and after India’s fight for independence from the British Empire. He became the first Prime Minister of India when India became a dominion in 1947 and remained Prime Minister until his death in 1964. His only daughter, Indira Gandhi, went on to become Prime Minister in 1966.
