Speaking is one skill but being able to understand somebody is, of course, another one! It is sometimes difficult to understand English speaking people because of the variety of accents within a country not to mention the differences between the different countries themselves (Great Britain, Ireland, The United States, Canada, South Africa…).

CADRE EUROPÉEN COMMUN DE RÉFÉRENCE POUR LES LANGUES

Le Cadre Européen Commun de Référence pour les langues (CECRL) s’impose dans les pays européens comme l’outil essentiel pour la création d’un espace éducatif européen dans le domaine des langues vivantes. Sa finalité essentielle est de favoriser la transparence et la comparabilité des dispositifs d’enseignement des langues et des qualifications en langues.

Le CECR établit trois niveaux ou paliers:

A: utilisateur élémentaire
A1: introductif ou élémentaire (fin de primaire) A2: intermédiaire ou usuel (fin de cinquième)

B: utilisateur indépendant
B1: niveau seuil (fin de troisième)
B2: avancé ou indépendant (fin de terminale)

C: utilisateur expérimenté
C1: autonome (niveau universitaire)
C2: maîtrise
