The family receives a letter from Giury with photos of Susie. It makes us understand that (M) the foster family (N) kept in touch with (V) the biological family.

He finds a lot of similarities between his wife and his daughter. She wishes she had been by her side (M) since her first steps (M), since her first words. She misses Susie a lot.

Margit writes letter to officials in order to get Susie out of Hungary. She tries her best to (V) make Susie come. It shows the difficulty for Margit to fulfill her dream (V) due to (M) the government quota laws for immigration. Not anybody could come in !

Meanwhile / in the meantime (M), the family has moved to a real house, which shows that the family has fit in the American society and  they have climbed the social ladder (V).

The welcoming party stresses / underlines / highlights (V) this fact. It takes place the fourth of July (which is Independence Day) which clearly suggests that they both celebrate THEIR freedom and their new country’s freedom. They feel like real Americans now. During the party, Margit is afraid of the fireworks, whose (M) noise remind her of (V) the war, the gunshot which killed her dad.

Susie is seen as a  very happy child with her foster family (N), which suggests that love has nothing to do with (V) blood or hereditary links. Love has no boundaries (N). She loves her foster family as if / as though (M) they were her real parents.

Dear sir,

Being eighteen years-old, I just took and passed the A-levels.
I would have liked to apply to a journalism school but before going to college, I would like to go on a gap-year , for I had a tiring year.
I may have had a tiring year as a Terminale yet I do not want to be idle for “the devil finds evil things fir idle hands to do” and not doind anything at all isn’t constructive.
I do not want to spend a whole year being lazy and bored and being a burden to my parents does not please me.

As I just said previously, I just passed the A-levels in literature and, furthermore, I had pretyy good grades until now.
Journalism has always seemed interesting: particularly investigative journalism, for I want to act, I want to be out in the field, if there is any conflict, I want to be on the frontline.

I seriously think I have some of the qualities required for this project: I am humorous, I am also as open-minded as it is possible and moreover, I don’t minde working in group, because teams are just a good opportunity to learn how to listen to the others and be less selfish.
And, last but not least, I already have had a few experiences such as training courses.
I am not agoraphobic so the crowd isn’t really a problem and I think I can easily adapt to any situation.

My name is Valentin Dilas, I turned 18 three months ago, and I have just finished my studies. I was in Edouard Herriot High School in Voiron, my small-native-town, during my school years, and I obtained my A-Level with very good marks; 14 in Philosophy, 18 in Spanish and in English. That is why I chose to do a Gap Year with VSO. Currently, I live in Lyon, not very far than my native soil, with the aim to enter in Language School. But before entering in my college, I would like to do a Gap Year in your association. One of my brothers did it 2 years ago, and he came back in saying that it was the most incredible experience in his life. So, I think it’s my turn!

When I surfed on your website, one of your activities appear than created for me; it’s the one which concerns “Teaching in Mexico”. Indeed, my marks show you that I have good skills in languages, and I have already taught spanish in my mother’s class (she is a professor), so, I have good experience for teaching language. Moreover, I have taken care of children since I was 13 to pay my studies. I took care of a total of 23 different kids. I’m capable to be extremely patient with them, but bossy too. People say that I could be humourous and hard-working at the same time, and I think it’s a good point for teaching children.

Finally, I feel totally ready to do this Gap Year, with my experience of all that you expected. And I don’t say to you that I love Mexico and I visited this country three times, so, even if I stay cautious over there if you accept me, I have already some knowledge of different places, and I think it’s another good point, that I feel at ease with this Gap Year. In addition, you need a person with some skills in music and drama, and I have played the guitare for 5 years and drama for 10 years. Well, and another good quality; if I understand, you love Ricky Martin, like me!

I think it’s all that I could say to you about me for the moment.

I’m Hope Sullivan and I’m eighteen.
My secondary school years have just ended and I passed my A-level,
that’s why I’d like to take a break before I continue my studies.
In facti don’t really have any fixed idea, I just want to see
the world in another way for the moment,I heard about the Gap Year
and that is exactly what I want to do, a useful bracket.
I want to be useful and not spend a year with nothing to do.
I’ve always felt concerned about humanitarian actions
And I want to immerse myself in other cultures.
People around me have always said that I’m an enterprising person,
that i’m afraid of nothing.
I’m a cold-headed person, I know that it won’t be easy everyday.
I’d like to work on orphanages project in Cambodia,
I often work with children and I love doing this,
It must be very hard for them, they need attention and love
and I have so much love to give!
I know I’m able to take care of them, maybe I will take care of kids my whole life,
I don’t know.
I’m said to be creative and patient, I know I’m cautious and involved in what I do.
Furthermore, Cambodia is a country I’ve always wanted to live in
because that’s my father’s origins.
Anyway I plan to help, nevermind if it’s not exactly what I want,
but I’m applying for this project, I know I can be useful and it can be useful for me,

First of all, I will present myself, I think That it’s important, so I’m called Marie André-Poyaud and I’m 17 years old. I’m upper sixth former and I studdy Literature, after my study I would like to be a french teacher, for I lived in France and I love my country and I’m convinced that it’s important to be well-educated and speak french language correctly when you live in France and it’s the same in another country. I live in a city and every day I meet people who use a bad language or a coarse language.

Now, let me talk about my- skills, my experience and my qualities. I have already worked with children since I passed my “BAFA”, so I’m able to take car of them. I love to spend my time with my neighbour’s child ! I’m said to be patient, friendly and humorous, and generally children like me. I’m capable of making decisions. I’m creative so I can  invent a lot of things to amuse orphaned children. people say about me that I’m an understanding girl. I play the guitar and drama and I wouldlike to share this with them.

What I particulary like about this project is that I have the possibility to bring smiles on children’s faces. Working with children who didn’t have the same education as me interests me. And I think tht it can be a very good experience ti me beacuse I plan to work with children. I’m determined to do my utmost to give them some hapiness in their life. it’s very important to me.
