Thanksgiving is a very famous celebration in the U.S.A. and in Canada too. It is on the second Monday of October  in Canada and on the last Thursday of November in the USA. This year, it was on the 27th of November.

It consists of a meal between family and/or friends. We usually eat roast turkey with mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pies. In the USA, it is a day off : schools and companies are closed from Thursday to Sunday.Poeple travel long distances to be with their families on that day.

Origins in Canada:

Martin Frobisher, who was a navigator, created the first Thanksgiving in Newfoundland in 1578. He wanted to thank God for letting him ans his crew survive the trip across the Atlantic Ocean. Then the tradition changed. In 1879 Thanksgiving became a national day but the party didn’t happen on the same day every year. During the First World War Thanksgiving was fixed on the second Monday of October.

Origins in the U.S.A.

In 1620,the English settlers arrived in Massachussets to form a colony. However some stellers died because of diseases. But a tribe near their colony helped them. They gave them a lot of  food, drinks and clothes. It enabled them to  survive in  America. To celebrate the first harvest in 1621 the governor organised a three day celebration with the Indians : they ate, drank and prayed for three days long.

The scene takes place in a house in the countryside during the holiday, where the Pearson’s  will live an extraordinary story. A strange thing is crushed on the roof of the house and breaks the dish. The boys go there and are attacked by aliens. The aliens can control adults with a remote but not the children. Children must face the invasion alone and fight aliens back.  Morever Bethany, interpreted by Ashley Tisdale,  adds some humour in this movie.

It’s an original way to present Alien’s invasion. The way people are controled is amusing. It also shows that working at school is important because if the children are not intelligent, they can’t win against the aliens. Each character has his/her personnality and is funny.

5.  Toto is riding a bike. He says to his mother : « Without the foots! ».  Later, he says: »Without the hands » and he gets crushed against the wall!

Halloween is on the 31st of October. On the night of the celebration, we ornate our houses with orange and black decorations like carved pumkins, spiderwebs or skeletons.

Children get dressed with scary costumes and knock at their neighbours doors saying: Trick or Treat to get treats: candies or sweets. Children can also play a lot of Halloween games like « la pinata » in Spain : we must bite into a candy apple with our hands in our back.

Halloween is celebrated in a lot of countries.  However, in some countries like Ireland it’s a big celebration and people love it. Halloween came from a Celtic legend: dead people return to earth to haunt people the 31st of October.

Story :

It’s a story about Ginta, a young boy. Every time he sleeps, he dreams about a magical world, until one day he really enters in this world. On his way, he will meet a lot of people (Dorothy, Babbo, Nanashi, Alviss, …). He will try to come back home but he will find an obstacle : Chessboard.

Our opinion :

Mathilde : I love this manga !!!!! Because the story is funny and not too short or too long : 15 volumes. I like Nanashi, Dorothy and Babbo !!

Violette : I like this manga. Sure, it’s not as great manga as Bleach or D-Gray-Man but if you want to have a break from popular mangas and read a good manga, this one is for you!

Martin Luther King was a pacifist man known all over the world . He changed the life of all the Afro-Americans. Let’s go back over his life …

He was born in 1929 in Atlanta, U.S.A . In 1953 , he became the pastor of a church in Montgomery, Alabama. At that time , the southern states of the U.S.A were segregated : blacks and whites were separated and could not mix. Two years later, he organized the Montgomery Bus Boycott to support Rosa Parks : Rosa Parks refused tomove to the back of the bus when a white man asked her to, so she was put in prison! So, during the Montgomery Bus Boycott, Afro-Americans refused to take buses to show their discontentent. It was a famous movement in the USA but also in the world.

In 1958 , he was stabbed in chest by a deranged woman (Izola Curry) but escaped death. She stabbed him because she tought Martin Luther King was a communist leader.

Some years later, in 1961, the F.B.I spied on him because they (also!) thought he was a member of the Communist Party.

In 1963, he organised the Washington March to denounce segregration in the soutern states of the USA. That was when he delivered his famous speech  » I HAVE A DREAM «  in front of the Lincoln Memorial :

« I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed : “We hold these truths to be self-evident : that all men are created equal.”

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today!

Jena was adopted at 9 months and then she was brought up by French parents in Oloron Sainte-Marie. She has got Chilian origins. Jena Lee is 21 years old.
