Leatherback sea turtle

The leatherback sea turtle is the biggest turtle in the world. It’s a marine turtle. Since 1981, it has been an endanged species because we built hotels or attractions for tourists on beach where turtles lay. And we capture them to make oil and eat their meat.

The turtle is the biggest reptile in the world. It can weigh more than 900 kg. It has a specific shell. The soft-shell has lines and it is dark blue with white spots . When they are born, the baby turtles are really small (10 cm). When they reach their adult size they can be up to 2,50m long and 3,5m wide.

The leatherback sea turtle usually live between 30 or 40 years but some turtles can live up to 60 years.  It can go 900m deep and can stay under water for an hour.

We can find it in the tropical areas and on the beaches of America, Africa and Oceania.

Like all the turtles, the leatherback turtle hasn’t got any teeth. The turtle eats limp animals and some plants. But its favourite meal is jellyfish. It eats about 15kg of jellyfish per day .

, were killed in a plane crash. Alex was then raised by his uncle, Ian Rider

He was hired by Felix Lester-a computer fan-to test a computer called the  » Stormbreaker « . The Stormbreaker is a computer that will be offered to every school of the UK  Alex learned strange things. He made research at the library and he found that his uncle had made research about viruses. What will happen ???

Point Blanc

The MI6 called Alex for a new mission. He was hired by Alex Friend and Sir David Friends’ son,  a very rich manager of supermarket. He had to go to a boarding school called Point Blanc to discover if there was a connection between the death of Michael J. Roscoe-the manager of a very big company in the USA called Roscoe electronics- and  Viktor Ivanov the manager of the Russian Secrets Services  M. Roscoe’s and M. Ivanov’s sons were in the same school. Alex stayed for one week in the Friend’s house in Lancashire (region in the north-south of England). After Eva Stellenbosh came to bring Alex to Point Blanc,  they stopped in Paris  E.Stellenbosh put a sleeping pill in his drink and photograhed Alex.

The following day, Alex arrived to Pointe Blanc. He became friends with James Sprintz, a banker’s son. He also met Hugo Vries, Tom McMorin, Nicolas Marc, Cassian James and Joe Canterbury.

How could the director of Point Blanc transform children with problems into little angels ???

Skeleton Key

Alex went to Wimbledon. He discovered that a Triad wanted to fix Wimbledon games. The MI6  obliged Alex to work for the CIA because he may be assassinated in Europe. He went to Cuba. But Tom Turner and Belinda Troy (the 2 CIA agents) were not really happy to work with a teenager. Tom and Belina were watching Alexei Sarov,-one of the most important generals of the URSS.  He possessed an island next to Skeleton Key. Alex learned that they were looking for radioactives airwaves. Alex, Tom and Belinda took a boat and the two CIA agents dived into the sea to get in Sarov’s island by an underwater cave. But after two hours waiting, Alex decided to dive too. He found the cave but the two adgents weren’t there. A shark was turning around Alex. It was a white shark, the most dangerous shark. The shark entered the cave and it was torn into pieces. Alex returned to the boat and he began talking to Garcia (the skipper of the boat) but the old man didn’t answer. Alex saw that he had a dagger in his back. He heard a voice and felt a sting. When Alex awoke, he was tied and he was Alexei Savov’s prisonner. Alexei asked him questions. First Alex didn’t want to answer but he ended up revealing his cover.

What’s going to happen ??? What is Sarov going to do ???

Eagle Strike

Relaxing in the South of France with his friend Sabina Pleasure and her family, reluctant MI6 agent Alex Rider finally wants to feel like any ordinary fourteen-year-old.

Alex thought that Damian Cray-a celebrity, human rights campaigner and the creator of the Gameslayer video game, could be a criminal. It seems Damian forced real people to experiment his video games, which was illegal.

One day, while he was coming back from Damian Cray’s party, Sabrina’s father was hurt in a terrible car crash. Alex is convinced Damian had something to do with it. He is determined to track down his friend’s attackers, even if he must do it alone. But it’s a path that will lead him to a long buried secret and a discovery more terrible than anything he could imagine.

What’s Damian Cray going to do ???

Scorpia

In the first story Alex had met Yassen Gregorovich who was a shooter. He was the man who killed his uncle in Eagle Strike.  In Scorpia he met Yassen again. Before he died, Yassen said to Alex that he knew Alex’s father and that he was working with him. He said to Alex to go to Venice and find « Scorpia ». How did Yassen know his father ???

Then, Alex met Julia Rothman who was Scorpia manager (Scorpia was an underground criminal organization). She asked Alex to make a choice : either to continue working for the MI6 or to join Scorpia to get his revenge because the MI6 had manipualted him. To join Scorpia he had to kill Mrs Jones (the Deputy Head of Special Operations)

Will Alex join Scorpia ???

Ark Angel

Alex Rider was in hospital and determined to put his spying days behind him. Alex saved Paul Drevin, millionaire Nicolei Drevin’s son,  who was kidnaped by eco-terrorists. He reluctantly accepted a mission to infiltrate the group of deadly eco-terrorists. They wanted to destroy a space hotel called Ark Angel.

Nicolei Devin invited Alex on holidays to see the inauguration of the Ark Angel Hotel.

Will the eco-terrorist destroy the Ark Angel Hotel???

Snakehead

Alex was splashing down off the coast of Australia when he found himself sucked into another adventure. This time he was working for ASIS-the Australian Secret Service-and his target was the criminal underworld of South East-Asia : the ruthless world of the Snakehead directed by the terrifying Major Yu. He worked with his godfather Ash. He was taken for an Afghan refugee.

Faced with an old enemy and troubled by the shadows of his own past, Alex was caught between two secret services, with no one he coud trust and this time he needed all his wits to survive…

Crocodile Tears

Alex had to investigate for the MI6 about a laboratory who grew genetically change plants. He discovered that  pastor Desmond McCain-the manager of charitable works- wanted to create a chemical calamity to collect money and keep it. Alex was kidnaped by MacCain and his bride Myra Bennett. They brought him to Kenya and kept him captive in a tent.

Howard Carter

source : photo: http://aemc4.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/carter.jpg

Howard Carter was born on the 9th of May in 1874 in London.  He was the youngest son of eight children. He grew up in a little town in the Norfolk county in England. He didn’t go to school but he learned how to read and write basically. His father was a wildlife painter, he taught him drawing.

Carter was 17 when he decided to make watercolor copies of tombs frescoes in Egypt. Carterwas immediately charmed by Egypt.  After he met Gaston Maspero in 1899, Maspero advised him to take the job of general inspector of the monuments of High-Egypt. In 1905, Carter was excluded from the antiquity service because of a fight with tourists.

He met Lord Carnarvon, who was doing researches as an amateur but he didn’t find anything exeptionnal. They worked as associates but in 1922 they hadn’t found anything. In 1922, Lord Carnarvon wanted to stop research but Carter asked him to continue for one more year. Lord Carnarvon accepted.

On the 3rd of November, the Egyptian workmen removed stairs. At night, Carter was in front of a door. Howard Carter had to wait for three weeks before entering the tombs, because Lord Carnarvon, who was staying in London, wanted to be there with his daugther Lady Evelyn Herbert. So Carter had no choice, he waited for months before entering the room of treasures.

On the 17th of February around 4 p.m., Carter broke the second plaster block and made one of the most important discoveries of the 19 h century : the tomb of King Tutankamun. The treasure was exeptionnal : 4 000 precious antiques. There were more than 2 000 kg of gold.

The medias related a malediction after the death of Lord Carnarvon. One of the last survivor of the expedition confessed that Carter invented this malection to take away the loot. Howard Carter died on the 2nd of March in 1939 in London.
