“Meeting at midnight…”

Debbie swung the car into her gravel driveway and hit the brakes as a blond man in a loose-fitting, yellow sweatshirt stepped into her headlights. She stuck her head out of the driver’s side window, and hissed, “Steve, are you crazy? What are you doing here?”

“No need to whisper Debbie.”

“But Stan might hear.”

“Not anymore, he won’t.”

She sucked in her breath and shut off the car’s engine. Steve had promised he would do it, but still, she’d had doubts. After all, Stan wasn’t only her husband; he was also Steve’s brother. “You mean…he’s dead?”

He cocked his head to one side as he so often did, and grinned. “I caught him asleep, pressed a pillow to his face, and…Oh, he struggled a little, but he never had a chance.”
