learning

Have you ever wondered which two languages you would choose to learn if you spoke no foreign language today ? The « 1ères1″ had to answer this « tacky » question and here is what some of them answered !

« If I spoke no foreign language today and I could choose two, I would choose English and Italian.

To begin with : English ! I think that it is a very important language since it is the global language nowadays. It is spoken all around the world ! And also, many employers look for employees who speak English. Therefore, if we don’t speak English we might not get the job we applied for. Secondly, we can hear English in many songs, that is why, to my view, it is great to learn English !

As regards Italian, I choose this language for pleasure. It is indeed a very beautiful language. It is also romantic and pleasant to hear. Then Italian is similar to French in grammar, in vocabulary too because French and Italian have the same origin : Latin.[...]

In a word, I would choose one language for work and the other for pleasure and travels too ! » Written by Lise.

« If I spoke no foreign language today and I could choose two, I would pick the same that I picked five years ago : English and Spanish. It doesn’t mean that I like to learn these languages. In fact, I don’t like any languages. I choose them because, for me, they seem to be the easiest to learn. I picked English because it has become the most  spoken language in the world. Every country, everyone in the world speaks English. What’s more, English is very easy to learn. I think someone can rapidly speak and understand English after two months living in England.

Just like Englis, Spanish is also a popular and easy language to learn. Spanish looks very much like French, from grammar to vocabulary, there are lots of similarities. Which makes it easier to learn. I don’t have much experience in languages, but I think that if you want to be able to speak a language fluently, you must practise each and every day. So, my method is watching films in the English version with the English subtitles. That way, I can hear English, learn new vocabulary, even try to repeat words and lyrics. And until now, this has proved effective for me. What’s more, it is not boring at all ! » Written by Hoang.

« I would definitely pick English and Chinese. First I would choose English since it is known to be one of the most spoken languages in the world : it is spoken by one in three people ! If you can speak English fluently, you can be understood in any country you travel to. In addition, it could help you to find a job as English is much used in the world of work for being the language of globalisation.

Next, I would learn Chinese. I think the Chinese language will increase in a few years : the Chinese people are very numerous in the world and China is becoming powerful as regards economics. Maybe one day, Chinese and English will be the two languages of globalisation even if the Chinese ideogrammes are difficult to learn.

As for me, I speak English, I learn Chinese and I also speak German. And I do not regret I chose German in secondary school : it is a very interesting language to learn. Moreover, Germany is one of our nearest neighbours and we can make exchanges with these people. I have been to Germany four times with my school, and I realised learning German at school was a real asset. Furthermore, my parents have German friends with whom I can speak German too ! Finally, I think Arabic can be interesting to learn too : it sounds very nice and I like the calligraphy. » Written by Léa.
