LECTURE PREPAREE n° 2  (test le 10 mai 2012) : Dossier Networks (distribué le 29 mars, jour du test n° 1 sur les lecture préparées)

Ce dossier ne sera pas retravaillé en totalité au cours : vous êtes censés le préparer seuls à domicile (vocabulaire, structures, compréhension fine du contenu), puis poser vos questions au cours.

Lire dans cet ordre :

1. pour le 19/4 :
- Networking basics (compiled from listed sources)
- Network topologies (howstuffworks.com)
Cette introduction précise les concepts théoriques utilisés par la suite. Elle donne un aperçu de l’évolution du matériel, utile pour comprendre comment on en est arrivé aux techniques actuelles. (Les deux articles de Computer Shopper seront beaucoup plus pratiques.)
Pour une idée plus plus concrète des switched networks and OSI layers, voir ici  (billet protégé par mot de passe). Ces pages ne sont pas à imprimer, elles constituent seulement un complément d’explications.

Enfin, parcourez déjà les pages à préparer pour le 26/4.

2. pour le 26/4 :

3. pour le 3/5, préparer par groupes (de 3 ou 4) UN des 6 sujets suivants :

- Ultimate guide to home networking, p.112-113 : Extend and improve wireless
- Get more from your home network, p.104-105 : Adding a NAS device
- Get more from your home network, p.106-107 : Sharing files
- Get more from your home network, p.108 + 110-111 : Sharing files between Windows and Mac OS, between Linux and Windows
- Get more from your home network, p.109 + 112-113 : Sharing printers + Media streaming.

ll s’agira de préparer une feuille de vocabulaire à distribuer, un relevé des mots-clés, et une présentation orale simple des points essentiels à retenir. (Détails au cours du 19/4.)   NB : lors du test, vous aurez à répondre à des questions sur les 6 sujets.

Choisissez du matériau que vous utiliserez/pourriez utiliser pour votre projet avec M. Wilfart. N’oubliez pas de mentionner clairement les sources en soumettant vos propositions.

2 solutions : soit vous travaillez individuellement (10-15.000 signes), soit vous travaillez par groupes de trois (comme pour M. Wilfart) et dans ce cas, si vous prenez les mêmes documents, je vous demande de 20 à 30.000 signes.

This time around, I’d like you to choose material on one or several  corporate site(s) : Intel, Microsoft, IBM, Cisco, Western Digital, Asus, Synology, Samsung, Epson… you name it.  (In case you lack inspiration, browse through any computer magazine.)                                    Just take care not to choose pure advertising material ! Think of the « Support » section available on virtually every manufacturer’s website. You can choose several articles if they’re too short, in which case it would be more interesting to deal with different types of products.

NEW STORAGE CONCEPTS EMERGE FOR PORTABLE TECH

In 30 years, hard drives have gone from a massive 5 Megabytes
to a currently very impressive 3 Terabytes maximum,
with 4 Terabytes on the horizon
- although we’ll probably be giggling at those figures in just a couple of years.
Hard drives are obviously still very popular,
either as computer components or standalone accessories.
Yet more and more consumers are moving their contents onto internet services
like Dropbox and SugarSync
where storage is portable, universally accessible, and affordable.
