A warm hello to you all!
I am a friend of one of the teachers at the lycée and in 2004 I participated in the class for frontdesk staff at a hotel. I was a really difficult customer, all for the practice of the students! I still remember the experience with fond memories; the lycée, the class and the staff at the lycée.
I believe nowadays one can no longer be fluent in only one language, as world-wide communication becomes easier by the day and one has contact with all the corners of the earth. That is why I think this blog is an excellent idea - to improve the language abilities of the students.
Some of you will know me from the blog “cap de bonne esperance”, where I leave commentaries from time to time in a not so perfect French!
I wish you all well and success with this endeavour!

Hello! We are very happy to have news from South Africa.
How do South African students learn foreign languages?
thanks for visiting our blog.
Seen you soon.
Morgane and Angélique.
Dear Morgane and Angélique
In South Africa, English is one of the 11 languages of the country. Although it is nearly impossible to speak all 11, English is fairly widely spoken and children learn it at school. The university where I teach have 2 official languages - English and Afrikaans. Sotho is also often spoken, but it is not a medium of instruction at my campus.
Children can learn foreign languages at school, yet not all schools have classes in foreign languages. Nowadays the emphasis is on African languages much more than on European languages.
I hope I have answered your question!
Warm South African regards
Daleen.
