German Cimetery in Fricourt

Later, we went to the German Cimetery of Fricourt

 This German cimetery, built by the French military authorities in 1920, is one of the biggest of the Somme. Indeed, more than 17027 German soldiers are buried here.

It is an impressive cemetery of black metal crosses.

This cemetery is also famous because the body of Manfred von Richtofen, also know as  » the Red Baron  » (a legend of the German aviation) was laid to rest  there until 1925.

This german pilot is considered the top ace of the war, being officially accredited with 80 air combat victories.
