Literary genres

 

  1. Associate the type of literature with its definition

 

A/ GOTHIC NOVEL A + 1/ A suspenseful story about a puzzling event, crime, mystery or espionage.
B/ HISTORICAL NOVEL B + 2/ The original author is unknown and these stories often have different versions. They are passed down through generations over many centuries.
C/ SHORT STORY

 

C + 3/ Stories composed in verse or prose, usually for theatrical performance, where conflicts and emotion are expressed through dialogue and action.
D/ SCIENCE-FICTION NOVEL (SCI-FI) D + 4/ A novel full of suspense, mystery, blood-curdling or supernatural events.
E/ MYSTERY FICTION

 

E + 5/ A fictional story that is presented in comic-strip format and presented as a book.
F/ GRAPHIC NOVELS F + 6/ It is a story about a person’s life. It is written by the person who lived it or by another person.
G/ BIOGRAPHY / AUTOBIOGRAPHY

G+ 7/ It is a make-believe story that could never happen in the real world. The author usually introduces fantastic characters who have special powers or are imaginary beings.
H/ FANTASY NOVEL

 

H + 8/ It is a kind of fantasy that takes place in the future and includes robots, space travels, alien beings and different scientific laws.
/ REALISTIC FICTION I +

 

9/ It is a combination of imagination and fact, with fictional characters and plot placed in a factual historical setting.
 

J/ FOLK TALE

J + 10/ A novel that shows a character’s development from childhood to adulthood, his spiritual crises, the importance of his family background.
K/ HUMOUROUS FICTION K+ 11/ It tells the story of imaginary people. Story events are true to life and often funny.
L/ POETRY L+ 12/ A narrative that is much shorter than a novel or a novella and which focuses on a moment of crisis or discovery.
