Georges Molinié
Sorbonne University president, UNESCO Club founding patron

The Sorbonne University UNESCO Club was formed under the auspices of the President of the Sorbonne University (Paris IV) professor Georges Molinié, who chaired the University from March 2008 to February 2012. Doctor of Letters and expert, he had already served a first term as president of the Sorbonne University from 1998 to 2003. For two years (2000 to 2002), he served as Vice-President of the Conference of University Presidents. Professor of semiotics and rhetoric, Georges Molinié taught at Sorbonne since 1988. Scientific expert for various research institutions, in France and internationally, Georges Molinié chaired the association of presidents of universities in Paris (in 2001) and the conference of the 17 universities in the Ile-de-France region (2002-2003). He was a member of the Supreme Council of Universities and the National Committee of the French National Center for Scientific Research. Former director of the Revue XVII century, he was also the author of numerous publications and about hundreds of scientific papers. He passed away in June 2014. George Molinié profoundly marked our university: first as a teacher in French language, as a real rhetorician as he liked to say, but also and especially in the various administrative functions that he has fulfilled, such as director of UFR, vice-president of the scientific council, and twice as president.During his second term, he had the heavy burden of making Paris-Sorbonne, with success, a fully autonomous university in accordance with the wishes of its legislator.
