Mes amis,

Monday, 11th March 2013.

We left from Geneva airport at 6 a.m. We arrived in Münich at 8.

Our second plane took off at 11 a.m. and we landed in Ankara at 3 p.m. Ankara is the capital, the region is Anatolia. There are 3 700 000 inhabitants.

A bus was waiting for us. We arrived at school where the families were waiting for us. We had dinner with them.

Tuesday, 12th March 2013.

When we got up, it was sunny. We met our teachers at 9 a.m. Our correspondents accompanied us. First, we visited the ethnographical Museum of Ankara. In front of the museum, we could see Atatürk’s sculpture showing him riding a horse. It is made of bronze.

Then we went to the Museum of Anatolian Civilisations.

The relics of Hittites are exhibited. The Hittites ruled Ankara region in the ancient ages . After that, we visited Ankara State Art and Sculpture Museum. We could see lots of paintings.

At 1p.m., we had lunch in a restaurant, in a very old, wooden, typical house next to Ankara’s castle. The lunch was very good: we tasted Türkish food.

Then, we had free time for shopping in the old part of the town, there were lots of small shops. It rained in the afternoon.

We continued our visit: we could see Temple of Augustus: it is an important relic of Roman Empire. It is supposed to have been done in 25 A.D. It is adjacent to Haci Bayram Mosque. The two buildings are linked: it is a symbol of unity between the two civilizations: the Roman one and the Muslim one.

After that, we could see historic Ankara houses and we were lucky: it was sunny again. The houses carry the typical features of Ottoman houses and traditional Turkish houses.

Then, we visited a museum dedicated to the writer of the lyrics of the Türkish national anthem.

At 6 p.m., we moved to our Türkish families.

Wednesday, 13th March 2013.

We were at the meeting-point at 9 a.m. From 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m., we met the District Director of National Education. He spoke about the importance of educational projects.

Then, from 11. To 1.00 p.m., we met the mayor of the district Yenimahalle which is a part of Ankara. He spoke about respect, tolerance between different cultures and he also mentioned the necessity of cultural and educational projects like Comenius projects. He offered presents to each school: the Slovakian, Polish, Spanish, and French schools.

Then, the mayor offered lunch in a restaurant.

At 2 p.m., we moved to Nazim Hikmet Cultural Centre where we could have a rehearsal before the presentation of Nobel Prize Laureates. There was also a presentation of some Türkish folk dances.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. we went shopping in the city centre. We had a very nice weather.

At 7 p.m. we arrived in a big hotel where our Türkish partners invited us for the farewell dinner and party. The dinner was delicious and there was an orchestra. We could dance Türkish dances. We had a wonderful evening and arrived in the families at 11 p.m.

Thursday, 14th March 2013.

The weather was sunny and warm. At 9.30 a.m. we visited Atatürk’s Tomb (Mausoleum) and Museum. Atatürk is the founder of Republic of Turkey. He was a brave soldier and a great leader. He died in 1935.

It took 9 years to construct the Mausoleum, from 1944 to 1953.

Atatürk’s clothes, his belongings, his awards and photographs are exhibited in the Museum next to the Mausoleum.

The tomb in the Mausoleum consists of colorful marbles.

Then we went to school where all the teachers had prepared lunch for us : it was delicious. We tasted and appreciated Türkish food again.

In the afternoon, we went to a thematic workshop where we could see women who were painting in water. It is called the Art of Marbling. We could try if we wanted.

Then, we had free time for shopping. And we had dinner with our Türkish families.

Friday, 15th March 2013.

We woke up very early because we had to be at the airport at 4 a.m.

We had a nice journey back home. We arrived at 4 p.m.

These four days in Turkey were very rich. We thank our Türkish friends for their kindness and hospitality and we will remember this stay for ever.
