Lodges

The words HOTEL and LODGE have very similar meanings.

Yet, you are more likely to find a hotel in a town or a city. Lodges are mainly found in the country or in exotic countries such as South Africa.
Lodges are often rustic cabins or cottages.

Most of them offer  inexpensive overnight accommodation with basic amenities.

In South Africa, some lodges are comfortably rustic, for example, some of them are primitive bush camps.
They are built from stone, timber and thatch and are designed to blend with the beauty of their natural surroundings. There is a kitchen for general use (equipped with a gas stove, a fridge and basic camping cutlery, crockery, pots and pans), dormitories and guests usually have to share a communal bathroom.

Others are luxury lodges, offering a wide range of luxirious features such as :

– designed furniture
– a private swimming-pool
– an en-suite bathroom
– exquisite cuisine
– an outdoor dining area overlooking a waterhole
– skin treatments and massages
