The Mayflower and the Settlement of the First Colonists

In September 1620, 102 british colonists sailed across the Atlantic Ocean, from Plymouth in the South of England to America. It was a long trip with their ship, the Mayflower. The living-conditions were very hard and there were rats. The goal of this event was to start a new life. They wanted to start from scratch because this New World was considered as a land of freedom and hope. Moreover they wanted to build a church.

Today we celebrate Thanksgiving that commemorates the first harvest in America because during the first winter in this country, many colonists died from malnutrition and diseases and Indians helped them to get food.
