Globalisation of taste

18 02 2016

Hello,

                     carte

We had question in French and we translated them for you and answer in English too. And we give our opinion too in the last question.

<– Here’s the map where there were questions

Localize the places of coffee, tea and beer origin. How this drinks had diffused in the world ?

Tea : East of China, Coffee : Near East, Beer : Western Europe

They were brought by the colonisation in different countries.

Why are pizza and hamburger « best sellers » of taste ?

They are very famous because they are eaten in all  the world and everybody like them.

Why in metropolis and touristic places are the most place taste’s mix ?

In these places there are a lot of people and as they come from different countries they bring their food culture, so some years after, in these places, food tradition of countries are mixed.

What are the big regions of the world which change the evolution of the taste ?

There are Europe USA and East Asia because they are rich regions, so other countries can take them as example.

Can we really speak about a globalisation of taste ?

We can speak about a globalisation of taste because sometimes when you go in a country as in France you can eat some food of other countries as pizza hamburger sushi.

In our point of view it’s made for tourism to have as many customers as possible.

But according to us it’s not  completely a globalisation of taste because in rich countries we don’t eat food from poor region and often we don’t like other food that we don’t know.

According to you, and with our answers of the question, what is the globalisation of taste ? And what is your point of view ?

P.S : We made a map with the legend translated in English for you, but we can’t find it again.

Different habits and cultures of eating

18 02 2016

We had three family portraits and their habits of consumption to compare. The first and the third are american, and the second is french. On the first, we can see that the family buy the products in high quantity (maybe for economic reasons ?), but we can notice a lot of vacuum-packed food, sodas and fast-food. On the french family portrait, the food is composed of vacuum-packed food too, but there are some fruits and vegetables. Moreover, they present plates with food, that is to  show an idea of cooking which doesn’t appear on the first family portrait. The french habits of consumption look, by far, better than american habits. But, the third portrait shows an american family with different habits than the first, andit  is nearly the same as the french example. In fact, we can talk about an “americanisation” in France, it is true that the american fast-food isvery popular in our country, but it can destroy our culture like the “art of the table” and the high quality of cooking. To say that the americans eat fast food only is a cliché.

After this, we had two photographs which show a kind of contest of eating, one in France, another in USA. In the photograph of the american contest, there are four candidates standing in  front of a lot of people and cheerleaders. The photographs look more like  a screenshot because of the score which appears on the bottom, and we can notice that this kind of competition is an event that give a lot of media coverage. On the french photograph, the candidates are sitting in front of a table and a plate with chips, but there are  not a lot of people like the american example. In France, this is not a very popular thing. For us, this kind of entertainment is ridiculous and mad.

The last photgraph shows a hamburger with foie-gras, all nicely presented. This is like a blending of  both cultures, which is quite interesting.

globalisation of tasteHello,

We are going to talk about the lack of taste in the world. In the world there are four main  places where there are a lot of exchanges of food. These places have different flows, inflows and outflows.for example  The beer coming from Europe to the united states . There aren’t many products  which come from USA to Europe. These center of food exchanges are very important because they receive food or dishes but they send other dishes or products too. All the metropolis too because they produce very different kinds of food and dishes. For exemple now we find pizza, hamburger, cappuccino, sushi or kebab all around the world while before pizza, hamburger and cappuccino came to Europe, kebab to middle East.

Basic Brittany gastronomy

18 02 2016

In France, all the family eat together in the kitchen or in the dining room but we don’t eat like the irish or the british in the living room, in front of the TV.

Do you have some semi-salted butter in America ? In Brittany we have that and we love it ! If you don’t eat it in brittany you have a bad reputation and people can say you’re not breton.

« Crêpes » are also a good brittany food and all people in the world love it ! You too I’m sure ! Enjoy you’re meal !

I don’t know what I can add but we eat some dishes of other countries like you.

Tomorrow it’s « Les Gras »in Douarnenez, we’ll enjoy it! Make some research about that.

See you & Be safe Tristan/Théo

The french paradox

18 02 2016

In France, there is a huge paradox that most  people don’t understand. This one is that french people are everyday eating one of the fatest food in the world.

At first , you can easily believe that, for example, eating too much butter, cream or cheese could be very bad for your health. But it isn’t ! In fact, the bad things like saturated fats are cancelled by the qualities of this same food like veracity, freshness and a lot of other things.

Also, you must all know that french people are known for drinking wine at almost every meal. It is true for most of us ! We love wine, and on the opposite to what  most  people think, it’s very good for the health. One or two glass of one per day makes your health better, helping the cardiovasculary disease, that is scientificly proved.

Finally, there has been a « food culture » for decades, or even centuries it is french what  makes french people eat slowly (for  most  them) since the childhood. It helps them to digest much better and keep their health right. All these good points of french food are not because of genes or something like that, it’s because of culture, the french culture.

About me, this is not really true because in a way it’s true that we eat a lot of cheese, butter and we drink a lot of wine but we have limits. French people who eat too much things like that are fat, because the good points of fat foods are true only if you don’t abuse of them. Eating too much fat food will drive you fat, that’s why most of the french poeple appreciate these little pleasures of life with moderation.

12 lessons we can learn about french eating

Yes, We agree with the narrator just if he speaks about the french myth, but there is exaggeration about what he says.

How you eat depends on your education. We think anyone learns how to eat correctly when he is young, not only french people. When he speaks about the behaviour of the french people whith the meals, we don’t agree because for us, we eat in front of the tv and our computer sometimes and we have cup holders in our cars, but not in our caddies. The french people are like american people when they are hungry they snack, often it’s the teenagers who eat when they want !

In France, the obesity exists too, a lot of people are on a diet like you, for example sporty people eat a lot of meat, proteines to develop their muscles.

The author thinks the french people eat great all the time but it’s not realistic !

The french children eat like their parents but when they are young they don’t like  »french » food.

At the dinners it’s recommended to eat light to sleep well not only in France. Sometimes, we can eat pizza or fastfood before going to sleep.

Some people eat food like ice-cream, potatoes chips, chocolate etc but they don’t get fat because they eat with moderation and other people eat a lot but they do a lot of exercices so they burn calories. There are people who eat junk food and get fat too.

French children must eat all the food that their parents offer them, even if they don’t like it, they must taste it.

During a meal we prefer to drink water, but for special occasion we can drink wine for adults and soda for children.

Often during a meal french people take their time to eat because they speak at the same time and they are not stuffed at the end of the meal.

In french families treats are authorized just for special occasion but in other families, they can eat sweets all days. French people prefer to cook at processed food.

Questions about our cultural differences, such as food.

13 01 2016

Bonjour!! Je m’appelle Paige…. I have noticed that Americans like to point out the specific food we eat, while you guys pointed out times and practices that we do and you do! So, I was wondering if in France, you all pay more attention to practices, like sitting down with your family and eating dinner, and time scheduling, which we do not do as often?! Also do you have some of the American foods, that we sometimesIMG_0841 eat, in Douarnenez? In America, specifically  in Pittsfield Massachusetts, we sometimes eat French foods, such as crêpes, macarons and croissants. A Noël, j’ai fait de bûche de noël avec le chocolat et moka et des framboises. Madame a dit, « c’est délicieux ! »
