On the road is a novel written by Jack Kerouac. He transcribe his road trip when he was young. He makes this trip after his father’s death. He did this road trip for discover the west of america, find over landscape, makes a spiritual quest in order to find again his inspiration. Jack makes this trip with Neal Cassady and creates a big friendship with Neal.
This novel is adapted in the cinema. Walter Salles dircted the movie « On the road » but there is fewer details in the movie than in the novel. I prefere the novel.
I agree with you, in the novel, there are more details but I prefer the movie because of jazz songs, dramatic landscapes like Arozina Desert or Rocky Mountains, for example. I loved the sets of the film.
Characters of this film transport the viewer into their crazy trip to discover the world and themselves, crossing the forbidden with joy. There are only the festive spirit, the spirit of madness and freedom capable to make Dean (« Neal », in the novel) happy. I was embarked in their adventure, transported in the 50s.
My favorite sentence of the novel and which appear in the movie is :
« The only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say commonplace thing »

This is one of my favorite books. When I read this book I had the feeling of being on the road with the narrator. This book was an amazing journey.
