Lyman Frank Baum is an amercian writer of the 20’s century mostly known for his children’s books. He had writen in 1900 a novel intitled The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz which tells the story of Dorothee a young girl who lives in Kansas and who is taken away with is house by a tornado and arrived in a wonderful country called Oz. She have to find a wizard to come back home in Kansas. It’s quiet an initiatory journey in a way because the character, Dorothee, is taken to an unknown place and she have to face many dificulties in the aim of returning home.
This story has been adapted on screen in 1939 into a musical directed by Victor Fleming staring with Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr… This movie had totally take inspiration into the novel.
There is also a new adaptation of it that had been done quiet recently and which is a prequel of the first movie and novel. It’s intitled Oz, the Great and Powerful and had been directed by Sam Raimi. The four principal characters are interpreted by James Franco, Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis and Rachelle Weisz.

Thomas Keneally is an Australian writter of the 20th century mostly famous for his historical novel Shindler’s Ark written in 1982 and which retrace the story of a german manufacturer : Oskar Schindler.
During World War II, Oskar Schindler was a member of the nazi’s party, he has however saved more than a thousand Jews during that time with the help of his assistant by taking them as his employees in his factory. The Ark of the title refers to Noé’s ark because Oskar Schindler have tried to save many Jews as much as possible in his factory as Noé did with the animal species he can save.
The title was replaced in the movie adaptation of Steven Spielberg by Schindler’s List which here refers to the list of Jewish people Schindler wanted in his factory and has given to the german authorities.
All these elements retraced by Keneally in his book show that litterature is a way to transmit a message to influences the world and remind us of the horrible parts of the past.
I always delay the time when I will watch the movie adaptation because it’s a really sad and heartrending story but it’s seems really interesting.
« The Wave » is a novel published by Todd Strasser in 1981 in the United States of America. This novel have been a real success all over the world, it was translated in 15 languages. It has been inspired by a true story called « The Third Wave » which was an experiment of psychology realised at Palo Alto High School in California in 1969 by an history teacher.
The novel repeat the chronology of the experiment made by the history teacher Ron Jones who had published an article in 1976. At the begining it just started with an typical lesson as we all have and then in about 2 weeks the experiment become a radical movement of totalitarian type. It remind us to the German and Russian regimes of the 1940’s because of their slogan « The force by the discipline, the force by the community, the force by the action » and also because of their logo and their salute which look like the one of the nazis. But the experiment turn out badly of course : most of the students become paranoïac, some are threaten by others… Then students created a movement of restistance against the experiment lead by Laurie who is the leader of the high school journal.

Norman Bates is one of the most famous fictional character of the 20thcentury. He was created by Robert BLOCH in his famous novel Psycho published in 1959.
This story had inspired a lot of directors like of course Alfred HITCHCOCK but more recently the story had been adapted as a television serie untitled « Bates Motel ».
It retrace the story as we know it but based in the present time and Norman is actually just a teenager for now. The scene is settled in a really strange city so that Norman is surrounded by violence and fear and because of this we see him change in a bad way.
The principals characters are played by Vera Farminga, Norman’s mother, (who played in Conjuring) ; Freddie Highmore, Norman, (who played Charlie in Charlie and the chocolate factory!) and finally Max Thierot (who played in House at the End of the Street) and here Norman’s brother.

The movie had been inspired of the novels of Stefan Zweig a famous Austrian writer of Jewish origins born in 1881; he had to flee in the middle of the 1934's because of the rise to power of Adolf Hitler in Germany.
The characters also flee in the all movie because they had stolen a famous painting called "Boy with Apple" and we found the influence of the Stefan Zweig's novels because the director has set a fake army which represent the Nazi's army and the hate of strangers that the author has replaced in his autobiographic novel "The World of Yesterday". Stefan Zweig and his wife get suicide in 1942 not long after Hitler gave the order to killed Jewish people in Europe.
