It’s the story about the artist Margaret Keane draws portraits of children with large eyes. Her husband, Walter Keane sells them as his own work. The couple become rich thanks to the portraits. The paintings become phenomenally successful, and earn a fortune. After a long time, she blends into his lies. Walter becomes drunk and abusive, and she decided to divorce him. Margaret reveals that she had been drawing the portraits, not Walter. The judge asks each of them, to demonstrate that they can draw a large-eye portrait.

Anecdot about this movie: Margaret keane (true artist) offered at Tim Burton, who is an absolute fan of Margaret, two paintings. One of them representing Helena Bonham Carter and the other representing her chihuahua.

Mr Nobody

It’s a drama movie, about a science fiction and chronicles of the life, written and directed by Jaco Van Dormael in 2009. The story of the movie is about Nemo Nobody, playing by Jared Leto, aged to 118 years old. He’s the last mortal human in a world where the immortality is possible for humans. Throughout the movie we discovered the differents life of Nemo. Moreover it’s a biographic movie of Jaco Van Darmael and he has received a prix for that.

With differents flashback, we discover his life but Nemo has confus remembrances. Also if he doesn’t like his life , he can changed her with a come back in the past. It’s the butterfly effect. This movie wants us to think about the importance of our choices and their consequences. « If you never make a choice, everything is possible »

I recommend this film for these actors and mainly for his psychological impact.

Anecdote about Jared Leto : This actor likes transformations, for Mr Nobody, he is turns into old person, also in Chapter 27 where he’s the murderer of John Lennon. He had to take 28kg for this role.

Who don’t we  like  chocolate ? For chocolate addicts I recommend this book, Chocolat. It was published in 2000, written by Jeanne Harris, a british writer.

The story begin in 1959, with the arrival in french village of Viviane and her daughter. The village’s context is complicated, ti is traditional and religious. Viviane decided to restart the confectionery during The Carême (The Lent in English,  a religious celebration  where everyone should fast during 40 days). The village see her as a danger because her chocolate quickly begins to change the lives of people. The Town’s leaders even will accused her to be a witch. On this point it is possible that they were right ?

This book has an adaptation by Lasse Hallström,  a canadian director, in 2001. With famous actors like Juliette Binoche, Johnny Depp, Judi Dench and Alfred Molina. This movie received many awards for the Best ActressSoundtrack Composer of the Year and other.

I recommend this book and this film for the pleasure of senses. So enjoy your meal !

For to finish, I found a story about Tim Burton :Not to  use special effects, in Charlie and the chocolate factory, he had made to train 40 squirrels to crack nuts.

The Color Purple is a 1982 epistolary novel by Alice Walker, in 1983 she receives Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the National Book Award for this fiction. It was later adapted into a film of the same name, I looked there shortly. The Color Purple is a 1985 american drama film directed by Steven Spielberg.

It was filmed  in North Carolina. The movie tells about a young African American girl named Celie Harris and her little sister Nettie. After many rebounds, both sisters are separated. Celie becomes a maried woman whereas she is still young. This husband is tyrannical with her. Children at this man consider Cellie more like a slave than a mother.

This story permits to discover the condition of african women during the early 1900s, and including povertyracism, and sexism. Like The Help, it’s a movie important of Africans’s history in United States.

The originaity of the director : Peter Weir have wanted to shoot the movie in chronological order for to show the evolution of friendship between these characters.

Charlie Chaplin or Charlot

Charlie Spence Chaplin (his real name) was born in 1889, and he died in 1977. Despite a complicated childhood, Chaplin became a famous actor at this epoque.—Charlie-Chaplin,

He started to ten years like a comedian in theatral, role after role, he begin to make name in business. He starts thanks these imitations of famous comics. It’s in 1918, he creates his studio with Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford et D. W. Griffith. After these first movies like  The Immigrant (1917), The Kid (1921), The Gold Rush (1925), he brings a new dimension at the comedy. He isn’t enjoyed just for this acting abilities or his burlesque imagination, it was a first to treat social conditions with satirysme in movies.

Charlie Chaplin is known also thanks this ressemblance with Hitler. He played with, in The Great Dictator (1940), it’s a caricatural comedy on Adolf Hitler and his dictatorship (I advise to watch it). This blend between humour, and reality makes Chaplin’s movies masterpieces of a cinema. I advise also Modern Times (1936), I think this movie is timeless, and still relevant with our society.

Chaplin’s anecdote : In 1915, Charlie Chaplin is in London, he seen a look-alike competition of Charlot. He joins under a false name. Unfortunately he loses to the 25th place.

The original title Brave New World from The tempest of William Shakespeare (Act 5 – scene 1). There is also reference to French literature, to Voltaire’s Candide.

One of main characters include this phrase with irony. This novel is written in 1931 by Adlous Huxley. The novel anticipates psychological the manipualtion and classical conditioning for profoundly change society.

The story takes place in London at « 632 Year of our Ford », after a War who touched the world who is known as « The Nine years’ War ». At the sequel the most humans live in State, only a number of « wild » are spread in reserves. The society is based on social castes.

The natural birth, married life no exist, it are considered like vulgar and obscene. The population is drug « Soma » for be happy everytime. Additional at the conditioning, this society hasn’t free will, contrubing to the ultimate objective of the sociel system; Stability. Sexuality is a entretainment, for to be only recreational so there isn’t tension like jealousy and possessiveness.

I recommend this book everyone, no just for this story but to have another vision of the world . Is that living happily is better than to live free ?

Peter Pan – Neverland

Now in class, we study Alice in Wonderland, but I would like to talk about the origin of Peter Pan. First of all, Peter Pan was reading by James Barrie in 1902. Like Lewis Carroll, he was helps thank to the children’s imagination.

This movie talk about this origin, it’s Neverland by Marc Forster in 2004. With Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet, Julie Christie and Dustin Hoffman we discovered the nostalgie and the power of imagination.

The summary : « James M.Barrie hasn’t the joy of live, this marriage it wasn’t pleased and the public doesn’t like these plays. A meeting will changes this life, with Ms Llewelyn Davies and these four boys. Thank them, he found this kid’s soul and with her, this imagination… »

Here’s the trailer of this movie :

Charlie and The chocolate factory

Everyone knows the story, and it’s one of my favorite movies. It talks about chocolate and candies, what’s more Tim Burton is the director. I think he is the most original director.

The factory’s world is wonderful and magic, everything can be eat same Mister Wonka but this is cannibalism. Willy Wonka isn’t a real hero, but he’s just a basic and a crazy man with a dream.

This chocolate factory is a mystery until the opening of these doors just for five children, thanks to golden tickets hidden among the Wonka chocolates.

Between real and fantastic, it makes this story interesting.

« The Hobbit » the book

After I have seen many times « The lord of the rings » and both movies about « The hobbit », I decided to read the book. I started to read it since autumn’s holidays.
