Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE

Strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a gothic novel by the scottisch author: Robert Louis Stevenson, published in 1886. This story is also knowing as the Strange Case Of Jekyll Hyde, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde or Jekyll and Hyde.

The story takes place in London in the 18th century.  One night, Mr Utterson, and his friend Mr Enfield walk the streets of the city. They pass in front of a door that reminds Mr Enfield of a strange fact he witnessed: the attack of a young girl by a man named Mr Hyde, a man with a repulsive appearance. Later, Mr Utterson learns that Mr Hyde is linked to one of his close friends, Dr Jekyll. Latter sent him a strange testament in which he declares to give the whole of his fortune to his friend Mr Hyde after his death. Dr Jekyll is a beloved and appreciated character but he will change his behavior and become lonely and withdrawn. Mrs Utterson will be close to Dr Jeckyll to try to understand. the murder of a politically influential person has just been committed and Jekyll’s cane was found at the scene of the attack. Utterson is getting more and more worried. One day, one of their mutual friends, Dr Lanyon, dies quickly without anyone knowing what killed him. On the evening of his funeral, Utterson discovers a letter written by Lanyon that he can’t open until Jekyll’s death. Later, Poole, Jekyll’s faithful master of the house, came to look for the notary because all the servants were terrified by the doctor’s behaviour: he remained confined in his office. The notary goes to the doctor and discovers Hyde’s body. Utterson finds a letter that Jekyll addressed to him in which he asks him to read the letter written by Lanyon. All the work of Dr Jekyll is detailed: by drinking a potion, he managed to separate his soul into two parts, one good, the other bad. But the bad side, Ms Hyde, got the better of the good Jekyll and he can’t go back to what he was. The doctor declares that he prefers death rather than being the incarnation of devil. Utterson keeps all this information secret.

I think that the using of gothic element in this story is important and interessant because it reinforce the atmosphere. The scene takes at night, in confined place, Dr Jeckyll transgressing the moral code. This story inspires wonder and admiration but also the fear and amazement to think that we have a monstrous part.

Strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Strange case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde is a short novel (the novel has 141 pages) published in january 1886 by Robert Louis Stevenson in London and edited by Longmans and Green & co. It is a rewrite, the first manuscript having been destroyed by Fanny Van de Grift, the wife of the author, who considered it a « notebook full of hogwash ». Duality is at the center of this story.
This is the story of Mr. Utterson (lawyer) who is very worried about his friend Dr. Jekyll. His testament says that all his possessions will be for Mr. Edward Hyde if he disappears for more than a month. Mr. Hyde is a violent man, not handsome, tall, bald, scary and above all, he is capable of killing. Despite the attempts of his friends, Dr. Jekyll refuses to change his will. Every passing day brings new strange facts about Mr. Hyde and Dr. Jekyll. The doctor is getting closer to Sarah who already has a man in his life. His father hates Dr.Jekyll because he says he killed his daughter. They fall in love and live together except one night MR.Hyde hits. He physically hurts her and she is very shocked. By the way Hyde to an apartment not far from his lab. We have a rebound in the end…
I really liked this story. I found it beautiful and at the same time scary because during the transformation it’s scary. I do not necessarily like the horror fantasy genre but it was a discovery for me. It is a story that is touching but at the same time surprising. I really recommend this book.

Oscar Wilde

The Picture of Dorian Gray

The picture of Dorian Gray is the only novel of Oscar Wilde published in the July 1890 of Lippincott’s Monthly Magazine. The editor of the magazine explained that the story was indecent and censored five hundred words before the publication. Despite this censorship, The Picture of Dorian Gray offended the moral sensibilities of British book reviewers : they said that Wilde violating the laws of public morality. First, Wilde defended his novel in correspondence with the press. Then, he delete the most controversial words and publicated his book the following year,

The Picture of Dorian Gray begins on a summer day in Victorian era when a famous artist : Basil Hallward is painting the portrait of an handsome youngman named Dorian Gray. Through Basil, Dorian meet Lord Henry Wotton who convinced him of the value of beauty and pleasure above all things. Dorian is really disturbed by Lord Henry’s words and terrify of his own image and fears that his youth and beauty will fade. Dorian becomes jealous of this painting wich remain forever young while he is have to to aging and passionately whishes that the marks of life appeared on the portrait and no on his face. Lord Henry is fascinated of Dorian’s innoncence as much as Dorian is impressed by Henry’s way of life, they become fast friends.

Dorian soon falls in love of a poor but talented young actress named Sibyl Vane. They become engaged and he brings Henry and Basil to a theater. Sibyl plays here but her acting was inexplicaly terrible. On backstage she tells him that now she loves him but that her feelings are going to pass away. Disgusted, Dorian breaks of their engagement and leaves Sibyl. He returns to his home and discovers that his portrait had now a slightly different facial expression. He realized that the portrait was alive : a linving mirror of his soul.

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a famous novel written by Robert Louis Stevenson in 1886. The story is about Dr Jekyll who is a nice man, very appreciate of everyone, great friend of Mr Utterson (a london notary), and Mr Hyde, a monstrous man, with a scary and repulsive face.
In this novel full of suspense, Mr Hyde is the double personality of Dr Jekyll who created a drug to separate his good side of his bad side. But it didn’t work and night after night it’s Hyde who takes over.

I love the stories with suspense and when a character have a dark side, so I really love the plot!

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde also been adapted in cinema, in theater, on TV, in comics, in songs and into video games.

Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde

Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was written by Robert Louis Stevenson in 1886. This is  gothic literature.

The scene takes place in London at night. The hero of the story is Dr.Jekyll, he wants to shows everybody have opposite forces inside themself, a kind of alter-ego. For this, he creates potion for separete the good side from his dark side. He wants to get ride his evil part. After drinking the potion Dr.Jekyll become an other people, ugly, strange and vigourous men. Mr.Hyde is born, this is the name of dark side from Dr.Jekyll. The doctor shows his reflection in mirror but is not really himself is evil part of himself but he accepte that. The hero is facinate by the image of Mr.Hyde. But along this story we can see, Mr.hyde takes a big place in a life of Dr.Jekyll and the evil part become dangerous for familly and friends of doctor.

I really like this this story because there are suspence, murder, blood and the reader  wants to know what going to happen. Caracters are very special and atypic, the story is very interesting.

Dr. Moreau’s island

Edward Prendick is the only survivor of a shipwreck, rescued by Montgomery, who’s a passenger on a ship carrying animals. Montgomery is the assistant of Dr. Moreau, a crazy scientist. Prendick discovers that during the past ten years, the two men are experimenting on animals, performing transplants and surgery to make them act like humain being (talk & walk). The « beast-men » live in a village & obey to « the Law » which forbidden animal behavior & is forcing the animals to look up at Moreau, who they call  » Master « .

Rules : -Do not walk on fours.

            -Do not lick to drink.

-Do not eat meat or fish.

            -Do not scratch trees.

            -Do not chase other men.

But Prendick discovers that some creatures don’t respect it & are eating rabbits. The murder of Dr. Moreau is done by a beast, a man half puma. Montgomery is then killed and Prendick, now alone with the creatures, will manage to gain respect. He finally manages to escape on a boat & return to England. But traumatized by the experience, he continues to see the « ghost » of Moreau’s monsters in the cities.

I read this book about 3 years ago & loved it; I can’t say why, it’s probably my psycopathe side’s talking. But it’s also probably because it’s an extraordinary story that brings admiration & a little bit of fear & disgust. Now with the evolution of science & medicine, why would it be not possible to do the same thing?

The Picture of Dorian Gray

Oscar Wilde is a famous writer of the victorian era. During this time, novels override poetry that’s why, even if he beggan to write a collection of poems in the tradition of esthetic, he quickly started to write plays and short stories in which he went deeper and deeper in his research of the ambiguity of beauty and often hurted himself to the strict rules of the Victorian era, especially concerning his plays.

The Picture of Dorian Gray, his only noveldepict the story of a virtuous young beautiful man, Dorian Gray, recently rich after his father’s death. He inherits of his father’s domain and meet some former friends of his father, particulary a painter Basil Hallward who quickly become his friend and who is absolutely fascinate by Dorian’s beauty and decide to paint a portrait of him. During his work, he presents him Lord Henry who live a life of decay completely opposite of Dorian’s one. But quickly, he leads Dorian in the darkest side of London, convicing him that his beauty his a gift and that money, youth and lust are the best things that could ever happened to him. When Dorian’s portrait is finally finished, he is flabbergasted by is own appearance. So he organize a party to show it to is entire new circle of friends. During this evening when his beauty subjugates everyone, he admits to Henry that he would like to stay like the paint depict him forever as he is nearly jalous of it and of the admiration that it seems to cause. He ignores the consequences of his words: he just sell his soul to the devil and from that moment, he stop to get older, to bleed or to keep any physical mark. His portait is now the reflect of his soul, putrefying, turning into a monster as he lives more and more in sin.

In this novel, Oscar Wilde deals with the ambiguity of beauty, decay and duplicity, using themes of virtue, vices and evil. He develops there the philosophical doctrine that consist in believe that the research of pleasur is the only aim of human existance : hedonism. His story reminds us Narcisse as narcissism is one of the main point. They are also both afraid by death and added to they obsescion for themselves, they are the only cause of their tragic end.

Critics violently welcomed that novel that offend British moral, in partucular because the writer did not explecitely express his choice between vice and morality. However he answered that a dook can not be moral or immoral, it is just well written or not.

Eragon

Eragon is an American film by Stefen Fangmeier, based on the novel by Christopher Paolini, release in 2006.
The main scenes take places in a village called Carvahall. The main character is Eragon. He discovered in the woods a dragon egg. From that moment, the young man pupil the dragon who’s growing fast, but it is also chased by the bad guys. He also learns to fight and wield magic. He’s the only person who may be able to bring down the empire of the heartless, Galbatorix.

Normally that’s a novel in three volumes, except that there is only one film adaptation because, apparently, there would have not been enough in the cinema entrance. In addition, the film’s story would have been too much changed from the first book.

Personally, I liked this film; there is action, strange creatures and all that kind of stuff.

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1994)

In class, we watched the movie Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and I want to talk about this movie. The movie directed by Kenneth Branagh and released in 1994. The Main actors are Robert De Niro (Dr Frankenstein) and Kenneth Branagh (the creature).

I think that this movie is a great interpretation of the book. Because we feel  the dramatic side and the despair of Dr Frankenstein. Admittedly the direction and the special effects are of low quality and certain parts of the story aren’t respected but the version was produced in 1994 and the director communicated the morality of the story.

Bilbo The Hobbit

Althought we did’nt see this movie in class,I really like this film.

I saw it at the cinema and I have read the book. It’s one of my favourite film because I found the sets very beautiful as well as the creature and all the spectacular special effects. Another the stories are always differents as The Lord of the Rings, which I also recommend.

So, if you don’t know what to see, or if you want to watch a film, why don’t you see Bilbo?

Frankenstein: A Popular Myth

Frankenstein is a character invented  by Marry Shelley in her novel « Frankenstein or the modern Prometheus » published in 1818. Frankenstein is not only a fantastic tale, it also represents the birth of science fiction. For the first time, there is a myth that is based on scientific speculation and not only supernatural elements, contrary to other monsters, like vampires or werewolves, the monster is made by a scientist called Victor Frankenstein, in a laboratory . The author refers  to scientific experiments of her time on electricity. Mary Shelley’s novel, has achieved success quickly. This led other artists and writers working for the entertainment industry to adapt the novel with more or less fidelity. Hundreds of plays, dozens of movies, comics, cartoons, video games, novels, etc.. continues to the perpetuation of the myth of Frankenstein in the common imagination.

Here we have a video which shows, some scenes of the Frankenstein play.

The Maltese Falcon

We have too talked about The Maltese Falcon.
I have loved the main character and the story which is a quite mysterious and suspensfull. The main character is a detective whose name is Sam Spade. He is desagreable, brooding, scornfull and has a cold character contrary to Iva who is in love affair with him and is sobing all time and want’s him to confort her. Indeed she left her husband but the killer may be Sam.
This novel is a quite suspensfull and today the excesive characterof the two characters are quite funny today and make us laught.

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

In the several works we studied, I prefer The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson.
The videos we saw in class was at a time engrossing and a little bit terrifying during the transformation of Dr. Jekyll into Mr. Hyde, it was interesting to see the separation the two different indentities, the good side and the evil side who  are inside of Dr. Jekyll. I like the story because it concerned about everyone who have two-faced like Dr. Jekyll.
I enjoy this kind of novella that combines romance and horror but I really like also the movie adaptation who is very realistic..

Alice in wonderland

Lewis Carroll is a great English writer of the 19th century. He is the author of the famous story of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”. He found his inspiration thanks to a little girl named Alice during a photo shoot. Lewis Carroll told the fantastic story of a dreamy girl to the young Alice, who asked him to write this story. The author has published this story in 1845.

This story was adapted numerous times but one of the most representative and popular is “Alice in Wonderland” by Walt Disney in 1951.
The goal of this adaptation was to target a young public, which was a great success.

Then we have seen in class another adaptation that was also a real success, “Alice in Wonderland” by Tim Burton in 2010. Unlike adaptation of Walt Disney, Tim Burton aims a wider public because he doesn’t just represent the original story, but to rewrite to suit his way. This adaptation is for me the best and the most impressive.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

In the both extracts we have seen in class that we could consider two versions on Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. I prefer the second version because the first one is not really realistic : indeed according to this version Mr Hyde is ape-like and that refers to prehistoric men although in the second version he looks like a monster : we can say that they choose a monster because it’s more impressive : the monster is horrible. On the one hand he presents physical ugliness and on the second hand psychological ugliness. In my opinion, that’s more realistic : that’s why I would say that I prefer the second version.Dr. Jekyll et Mr. Hyde : Photo

Perfect Illustration.

I want to present a picture who represent Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. It shows the caracteristics of characters. We can see that Dr jekyll is a respectable man so that Mr Hyde is represented as the evilside of Dr Jekyll. Moreover we can deduce  that the characters are a threat thanks to the deadface. I think this photo illustrate this story.

The Picture of Dorian Gray – Oscar Wilde

I’m reading the novel entitled The Picture of Dorian Gray, write by Oscar Wilde and published in 1890. It’s a fantastic novel, but philosophical too. It’s the unique novel of Oscar Wilde.

This novel tell about Dorian Gray, who wants keep his beauty. His wish is granted, but it’s his picture which ages.

I haven’t finished the novel, but it’s very interesting and fascinating.

Bilbo Le hobbit

The Hobbit is a novel written by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien and published in 1937. This story relate the travel of Bilbo in the Middle-Earth, to recover the dwarf treasure, stolen by Smaug, the dragon. They travel with Gandalf, a wizard, and 13 dwarfs.

This novel belongs to Gothic literature. In this novel, we can defined an anti-hero. Bilbo does not have qualities of a hero, but, he reveals over the novel his bravery,  and he are loyal with his friends. I like in this extract the wish of Bilbo to save his friends, and he break te appearances, he exposed his bravery and strength while he seemed, at the beginning of this novel, fearful, and uncourageous.

Before read this extract, I have already seen at the cinema, the film, « Lord of the Rings » and I already know the universe of the Middle-Earth, and the similarity with this two writnigs are appreciate.

« The Hobbit » the book

After I have seen many times « The lord of the rings » and both movies about « The hobbit », I decided to read the book. I started to read it since autumn’s holidays.

Today I’m at moment when Bilbo meets the spiders. The book is different than the movie. I like read this story, because I feel more impressions of Bilbo’s sensations. Thanks to this reading, I begin to have the interest to discovered this fabulous world of Tolkien between elves, dwarfs and wizards.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

I would like to talk about a drama adaptation of the story dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

This story was represented many times, for movies and dramas.
Richard Mansfield was an English, he was an actor-manager, best known for his performances in Shakespeare’s plays, and Gilbert and Sullivan operas.
He changed the story written by Robert Louis Stevenson: indeed, he created new elements as 2 women in love with the same man, whereas they are not from the same environment.
This drama was shown at the end of the 19th century.

Dorian Gray

The film Dorian Gray is an adaptation of the eponymous novel written by Oscar Wilde, published in 1891. Directed by Oliver Parker in 2009, the film tells the story of a naive and young Englishman whose image is captured in an enchanted painting that keeps him from aging. If he commits a sin, his face in the picture changes and loses his beauty. For this adaptation, Ben Barnes as Dorian Gray and Colin Firth as Lord Henry Wotton, imperious and decadent dandy. Extremely witty, he is seen as a critique of Victorian culture at the end of the century, espousing a view of indulgent hedonism.

I don’t read the original novel, so I can’t establish a comparison between the film and the Gothic novel of Oscar Wilde. In my opinion, I’m not sure if this adaptation is the best but I liked so much the story, the atmosphere emitted, the soundtracks and the splendid shots of the director. The story is very interesting and pleasant.

The Picture of Dorian Gray remind me the novel of Honoré de Balzac The Magic Skin (La Peau de Chagrin) because in the two novels, we find the notion of physical decadence. Although, the rapprochement is often effected.

Movie Trailer :

A crazy project: Hobbit and the Beatles?

For many years we have seen appear many projects like fantasy books or movies. For example Bilbo the Hobbit written by J.R.R Tolkien in the thirties. This book is a entertainment for children. In the fifties he published Lord of the rings a fantasy book too but for adults. This book has been written to attract other public.

The literature projects can meet the musical projects. For instance in the sixties the Beatles, a popular band from England asked to make a movie about Lord of the rings with them in the lead roles (An anecdote: John Lennon should play Gollum!). This request has been refused by Tolkien.

Despite this failure the Hobbit and Lord of the rings will be adapted in cinema after many years.

Mike Hill : The Maker of monsters!

Mike Hill is an artist and a portrait sculptor. He appreciates, in particular, the horror genre, but he also ventures into the world of Comic Books, Superheroes, etc. It created several sculpture as by example that of Regan McNeil, Quasimodo, Superman and the subject which we treat in this moment: the Monster of Frankenstein. I join you some impressive pictures.

Don’t hesitate to give your impressions over these pictures.

Talk about the illustrator ( Bilbo and the Lord of the Rings) too

Hi people ! I am going to tell you about Bilbo‘s and The Lord of the rings‘ illustrator because a lot of people don’t pay attention to him but he is an artist as the autor ahah. AND he also was in all movies of the Saga The lord of the rings !

So, I will start with a short biography of him : Alan Lee was born in 1947 in England. He studied art of illustration at the Ealing School of Art. A few years after he discovered a real passion for J.R.R Tolkien and he chose to illustrate his books for their 100th birthday.

You can see the others elements of his life here : http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Lee

And a lot of illustrations by Alan Lee here : http://www.google.fr/search?q=alan%20lee%20illustrate%20bilbo&um=1&hl=fr&gbv=2&safe=vss&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi

I hope you will enjoy !

The Hobbit or The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde ?

The Hobbit proves that courage and strength (of mind) are most stronger than worry and fear.
But, the transformation of Dr. Jekyll is my favorite part because it confirm that two parts (the good and the darkness) exist on ourselves. Then, we can seperate them and become kind. Why not?
These texts are a morality who explain that we can fight our faults.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a novella written by Robert L. Stevenson and published in 1886. This story relate an investigation directed by a london lawyer, Gabriel Utterson, on Edward Hyde. He suspects him of blackmailing his old friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll, but the truth is worse than he could have imagined.

This novel belongs to Gothic literature. I appreciated this story because on the one hand, I like to be frightened by different elements (weird atmosphere, strange events, …) . Moreover, the theme of duality reinforces the fear, especially during the transformation scene, when Dr. Jekyll wants to separate the good side and the evil side. On the other hand, I enjoyed this story because I like very much Robert L. Stevenson. He was a great author and his novel, Treasure Island is a classical in literature.

In Gothic literature, I am also interested in The Picture of Dorian Gray written by Oscar Wilde because I would be explore an another environment but I always want to be frightened and surprised by literary genre.

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

I’ve decided to talk about The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, a book of Robert Louis Stevenson and the cinematographic adaptation of Frederic March and particularly in the ape-like appearance.

(link of the movie extract :  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbg5oXpq42Y ).

The director of the film, Fredric March had decided to underline the dopplegänger of Dr Jekyll. In this movie Mr Hyde play at hyde and seek with Dr Jekyll, he had tried to be face-full with the mind representation of a monkey with a part of wereworf. The monkey can’t control his basic instincts like the bad part of a human. The monkey was perhaps choose by the director because it capture well the mind conception of a free slave body, who explode with wide movement at every single time which wake him up, and who his very expressive at the screen. Dr Jekyll is the scapegoat of Mr Hyde in this novella.

Last but not least The free slave body in Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus of Mary Shelley also catch my attention for the same reason.

The Gothic Novel

Among the extracts that we have studied this year,  I prefered « The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde » by Robert Louis Stevenson,  in: « Characters: from Evolution to Metamorphosis. »  I loved analyze the passages of this novel, because it’s easy to recognize the Gothic elements.  For instance : the stranges events,  the darkness and transgression moral codes like awe.  I found this extract very interesting, I would like watch the two movies  (the first who has made in 1931 and the second who dated from 1996).

Representation of a story

I saw a picture which sums up fairly well the story of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde:
http://johantroianowski.canalblog.com/archives/2011/03/21/20685616.html

They are two people in the same body: The right one, seems wicked, evil, naucious..whereas the left one looks nice and kind ! The only colors are black and white, that remind me the yin and the yang: the good (in white) and the bad (in black). What is good with this picture is that it shows the bad in each of us, that we can have two personnalities.

The Hobbit : The Desolation of Smaug

In class we studied an extract from The Hobbit. And on  the 11th of December , The Hobbit  : The Desolation of Smaug was released at cinema. It is the second film of this saga. Bilbo continued his aventures with his companions and trys to help Thorïn to get back his mountain , and the treasure which is there. But to do that , they owe to kill the horrible dragon Smaug. It’s in this film that we can see Bilbo fight against the giant spider.

That film was very appreciated by the public.

Bilbo The Hobbit

Being a huge fan of the lords of the rings, I immediately thought that The Hobbit would be as wonderful as the others and it does not disappointed me . I think it is a logical beginning and to reflects on over the trilogy. Unfortunately there is a lot less action but leaves us winks eg when Gloin and the other dwarves are caught by Elfs , he mentions the name of his son Gimli which is found in adventures of lords of the rings and also we also find Legolas and Frodon all at the beginning .
The film, like the book highlights the courage of Bilbo , because at first he did not want to come but eventually has decide to accompagnied them, it was not to his advantage because he was get used to having a house , a bed and plenty of foods, but he got used to it faster than you can imagine . Bilbo was frightened before, throughout the adventure he learned courage and to confront the danger, in the eyes of dwarves, readers and spectators he became a hero.

How bilbo the hobbit was born

While correcting his students’tests, Tolkien found a white sheet of paper and started to write the bilbo’s story on that page, up to the dragon smaug’s death.
At home, he read the beginning to his children but while they grew up, the novel disapeared step by step. One of his student discovered it and was very interesed so he decided to write the end of his first success.

The Hobbit by Tolkien

In all the work we saw in class, I prefer The Hobbit, written by Tolkien. I appreciate fantasy and
the world he created for his story is in rich in magic places, surnatural characters and incredible events.
In my opinion it’s a great representation of fantasy, as Harry Potter, written by J.K. Rowling, or The Lord of the Ring, written by Tolkien too. The descriptions of the differents places are complete and we see the scene as if we were.
I’m interested in the way he decribes Bilbo. I like the idea that an anti-hero becomes with the time an hero.
The epic story is ones style of writting I adore, and I would like to read all the book.

The Hobbit, Tolkien

Among studies subjects seen in class, I prefered The Hobbit. The extract studied belong of the fantasy like the novel entirely.
I appreciate this kind of story and the magical atmosphere. This atmosphere is represented by the magical ring and the sword that Bilbo, the main character, uses.
In the story, Bilbo doesn’t fit the image of the traditional hero because he is described with negatives features (he is grumpy and cowardly). So I think that it’s interesting because it changes from usually hero. But during the intrigue Bilbo become more and more a hero because he find the strenght to fight against a threat for his life.
I don’t read the novel The Hobbit but I’ve seen the film and I like the universe of The Lord of The Rings.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, by Stevenson

I am interested in gothic literature it’s why I enjoy Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Stevenson create a weird atmosphere, suspensful, and insert feelings of anxiety. We are eager, we are impatient to see Dr Jekyll’s new appearance, so Mr Hyde. I have liked comparate two film versions of this story that I didn’t know before. I appreciate this original story and her mysterious atmosphere..
