168 years ago October 13, 1848 Sarda Garriga arrived on the island of Reunion (Bourbon Island). He proclaimed the abolition of slavery the day of 20 December 1848 .

Every year, in La Reunion, December 20th is a bank holiday in memory of the slaves but also full of festivals .
