David sicard: the voice of the reunion island in the world
David sicard
is an artist from Reunion island. He was born on 1973. He lives in france with his wife and his children. He is a singer of maloya (the traditional music of reunion island) but he makes a fusion between the « maloya » and the « world music »(jazz), he calls this « maloya cabossé ».
After starting in the group « College Brothers » in the 1990s, he embarked on a solo career in the 2000s.
His music is mixed like the population in Reunion island.It reflects a long search of his identity and of his cultures Malgach,African,Indian ,European participing in the mix of Reunion island.On the texts in Creol and French , he mixes traditional instruments such as kayamb,roulèr,piker or bob with an modern instruments like guitar,bass and drums.
He is a new generation of artists from Reunion, He travels in the world for showing the creol culture,
He has made maloya an international music. He is a symbol of the success of the creol artists.
