Many plays by William Shakespeare were played at the Globe Theatre in London, on the south bank of the river Thames.
This theatre was built in 1599. It burnt down in 1613. It was rebuilt, but then it was destroyed by the Puritans in 1644. It was built again in 1996, and you can now go and see plays by Shakespeare in it.
