The Gunpowder Plot

In 1605, thirteen young men planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament (the Gunpowder plot). Among them was Guy Fawkes, Britain’s most notorious traitor.

Bonfire Night

Every year, on November 5th, British people celebrate Guy Fawkes’ failure to kill the king, James I. They light bonfires, set off fireworks, and burn an effigy of  Guy Fawkes.

Guy Fawkes is carried through the streets of Lewes in Sussex, Saturday November 5, 2005, as part of the 400th anniverary of the Gun Powder Plot. More than 30 separate processions will squeeze down the narrow lanes of Lewes in East Sussex for the town's annual Bonfire event, one of the most popular in the country. See PA Story SOCIAL Bonfire.
