Hey guys,
This week, on February 7th, American people are gonna start watching the annual Superbowl competition. Have you ever heard of it ? Do you know what that is ?
It’s the biggest football event of the year (not European football / soccer but American football). People get crazy about it !

Dear students,
We are starting a study about shopaholism and “Buy Nothing Day”.
As an appetizer, watch the trailer with subtitles of the film called “Confessions of a Shopaholic”
confessions-of-a-shopaholic-2009-trailer-f93819.html
and write and answer these questions on your notebook.
– What ‘magic’ is she referring to?
Stores / women / credit cards / shoes
– Her ___ is made by Gucci.
belt / dress / bag / bloomwood
– Her heart goes like warm butter when she sees ___.
a store / warm toast / someone cute / a guy
– Where does she get a job?
At a bookshop / At a magazine / At a savings bank / At a store
– Which language does she claim to speak?
Prada / French / Finnish / Shopping
This is the plot of the film : This romantic comedy was based on the novels ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’ and ‘Shopaholic Takes Manhattan’ by Sophie Kinsella.
Rebecca Bloomwood is a young woman with a dangerously unhealthy obsession with shopping which has left her heavily in debt. After several failed attempts to cut back on her spending, she eventually gets a job (rather ironically) as a financial advisor for a magazine. Rebecca becomes famous almost overnight after writing a popular article about shoes, and uses her new-found celebrity to help solve her own financial problems. In the meantime, she begins a romantic relationship with a wealthy entrepreneur, Luke.
Enjoy!

Dear students,
We would like to wish you a Merry Christmas… Enjoy your holidays… get some rest, some good time with your families and friends, and do not forget to work a little bit when you have free time… :-))

Just have a look at those two letters written by children… they’re telling Santa Claus what they would like for Christmas : it’s funny !

Dear SPVL2 students,
Our Topic 7 deals with “Environment and Green issues”. I would like you to have a look at three movie trailers.
Film 1 : An inconvenient Truth, Al Gore, 2007
Film 2 : Home, Yann Arthus Bertrand, 2009
Film 3 : The Titanic syndrome, Nicolas Hulot, 2009
1 ) First, we will describe the pictures, places and landscapes
2 ) Then, you will have to write down the comments. You can watch the video as many times as you need.
3 ) Lastly, you will give your opinion about those movie trailers… Do you like to watch that kind of films ? Do you think such films help people getting more responsible ?

Dear H1 and 2 PROS students…
As you are now learning how to describe people… I thought it could be interesting for you to have a look at the British school uniforms. It’s easy to describe and to remember. Of course the clothes and the colors may change from a school to another. They also depend on the season, and it’s not exactly the same for boys and girls… Look at the pictures and describe the boy and the girl on picture 1.
Pictures 1 and 2 : typical school uniforms

Picture 3 : Harry Potter’s school uniform (grooooovy !)

This is the painting you have in your book page 26. It is called “Sunset, Canoe Lake” and its author is Tom Thomson.
Find information about the painter and describe the painting.

Please post a comment. Get a help from the document you have at the bottom of page 26 and from the word list you were given in class.
