- Activity 4 correction (The citizenship’s oath)I affirm that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen.
- Activity 5 correction (Justin Trudeau’s Speech) Happy birthday Canada! On this day, a hundred and forty nine years ago, the people of this great land came together. There would no longer being Upper Canada or Lower Canada, a Canada West or a Canada East. Instead, there would be one nation, one country, one Canada. From the outset, Canada was formed not in spite of differences, but because of them. Today, as we celebrate our Nation’s Birthday, let us also celebrate our diversity. It united us in the past, it binds us together today, and this is at the very heart of your future success. No matter our faith, where we were born, what colour our skin, what language we speak or whom we love, we are all equal members of this great country. We have all worked very hard to build the diverse, inclusive and prosperous nation that we all love so much
and I believe Canada and Canadians like you, represent the very best vision of the future for our world. On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish you a very happy Canada Day. Joyeuse fête du Canada. - Lesson to write in your copy-book :
« Canada used to be under British rule, that’s why the previous Canadian flags had the Union Jack. On February (15th)
1965, the former Canadian flag was created with the red maple leaf, that’s why this day is celebrated as the National
Flag of Canada Day. The flag is also called l’unifolié. The maple leaf is one of the Canadian symbols as the beaver,
the maple leaf tartan or the Ice Hockey.
In 1867, Canada became independent with the enactment of the Constitution Act on July 1. This day is still celebrated
with Canada Day, which is the national day of Canada. Nowadays, people celebrate Canada Day displaying the
Canadian flag, painting their face red and white, participating to events such as concerts, parades, etc.
Justin Trudeau is the current Prime Minister of Canada. He is delivering this speech during the 2016 Canada Day. His
speech celebrates the unity of the country which had been made and is still made thanks to the great diversity of the
country. »

Thursday April 9th :
- Here is the correction of last week’s activities : Correction 3ème LCE Canada Day page 140 ;)
- Activity 1 correction : (Script de l’audio )
Canada is the world’s second largest country. It’s divided into 13 administrative divisions, 10 provinces and 3 territories. Each of them has a flag. The flag of Alberta is blue with a coat of arms in the centre. Both Ontario
and Manitoba have the Union Jack on their flags. Ontario’s coat of arms has 3 leaves whereas Manitoba’s features a buffalo. There’s a white cross on Quebec’s flag and a blue one on Nova Scottia’s. New Brunswick has a ship on its flag and there’s a red statue on Nunavut’s flag. Saskatchewan has a green and yellow flag. Prince Edward’s flag features a lion and trees whereas British Columbia’s flag shows the sun. Newfoundland and Labrador has a flag made of 5 colourful triangles and a yellow arrow. There’s a white fox on the coat of arms of Northwest Territories and an Alaskan Malamute dog on Yukon’s coat of arms. - Activity 2 correction :
The groundhog is not a Canadian symbol.
All the other animals are Canadian symbols:
• The beaver: symbol of the sovereignty of Canada,
• The loon: depicted on the Canadian one dollar coin,
• The caribou / the reindeer: depicted on the Canadian quarter dollar coin,
• The bear: the polar bear is often used as a Canadian symbol,
• The goose: often used as an unofficial shorthand symbol for Canada.
