UNIT 1 Project 2 HELP
Tips to write your lecture or your speech
Step 1: Create an outline
Here are a few interesting points to mention:
-
what made Tolkien’s work so popular
-
elements which might have influenced his writing
? his interests
? events in his childhood and adult life
? historical context
- any relevant anecdote
- his influence on popular culture
Brainstorm your ideas and write down what you think is worth mentioning. Decide on an outline
Step 2: Write a draft
Expand on the thoughts you have already written down. Just keep writing down everything that comes to mind. After you have jotted down many ideas, go back over your outline and number the main points in the order they should be addressed
Remember to include your listeners within the narrative. Make them feel involved. You want them to be interested and pay attention
Step 3: Ideas to begin your lecture/speech
Try to spark the audience’s interest with a catchy opening:
-
a quote ( from Tolkien himself, from one of his books, from someone famous referring to Tolkien or his work,…)
-
begin with a question then give the answer
Step 4:Completing your lecture/speech
You want the ending to be a few sentences that ties what you have said together. You want your listeners to have a feeling that everything has been closed and tied neatly together. You can restate an important point or theme found throughout your speech, or you can summarize how Tolkien and/or his work had an impact on you or people. You can also end with a quote
