British schools
Children’s education in England is normally divided into two separate parts:
- primary education from five years old to eleven years old ;
- secondary school from eleven years old to sixteen, seventeen or eighteen years old.
As in France, British children have school holidays:
- end of October: 1 week
- Christmas: 2 weeks
- mid February: 1 week
- Spring: 2 weeks
- end of May: 1 week
- Summer: 6 weeks
In most schools children wear a school uniform to be equal.
- Boys wear long grey or black trousers (shorts in Summer), a white shirt, a school tie (optional in most primary schools), a jumper or sweater with the school logo on, black shoes.
- Girls wear the same uniform but they may wear skirts. During the summer term girls often wear summer school dresses.
Children go to school from Monday to Friday, from 08:55 – 15:15.
