LA VILLE DE NICE

La géographie de Nice

Nice est une ville au Sud Est de la France . Elle est à trente kilomètres de la frontière italienne. C’est la cinquième ville la plus peuplée de France avec 350 000 habitants. Les habitants de Nice sont appelés les Niçois ou les Niçoises.

Nice est située au bord de la mer Méditerranée et de nombreuses collines entourent la ville, comme la colline de Cimiez ou de Fabron. Derrière la ville se trouvent les montagnes des Alpes.

La plus grande avenue de la ville est l’avenue Jean Médecin qui part de la place Masséna et remonte vers le Nord. On y trouve de nombreux magasins et un grand centre commercial appelé « Nice-Étoile ».

Les niçois et les touristes aiment se promener sur la « coulée verte » : cette promenade part de la place Masséna et va jusqu’à la place Garibaldi.

La promenade des Anglais se situe au bord de la mer entre la colline du château jusqu’ à l’aéroport.

L’ Histoire de Nice

Préhistoire :


Les Hommes préhistoriques à Terra Amata

A partir de 400 000 années avant Jésus Christ , les premiers Hommes s’installent à Nice sur le site de Terra Amata, à l’Est du port de Nice.

Le « musée de Terra Amata » explique la vie des Hommes de la préhistoire à Nice : il est situé au numéro 25 du Boulevard Carnot.

Antiquité :

Les Grecs sont très puissants dans l’Antiquité, surtout au IV ème siècle (= 4ème siècle ) et viennent construire des villes en France : Ils construisent la ville de Massalia , qui deviendra Marseille et celle de Nikaïa qui deviendra Nice.

Les Grecs vont construire la ville de Nikaïa sur la colline au dessus du port que l’on appelle aujourd’hui la colline du château.

Plus tard au Ieme (= 1er ) siècle , les romains vont chasser les grecs et prendre le territoire. Les romains vont construire une ville à Cemelenum ( Cimiez ) . Le musée archéologique de Cimiez présente les ruines de cette ancienne ville romaine. Il se situe au 160, avenue des Arènes de Cimiez.

Moyen-Age :


Nice au Moyen Age

Au Moyen- Age de grands seigneurs dirigent la ville. Les habitants se rassemblent en bas de la colline du château et entourent la ville de grands murs afin de se protéger.

En 1348, une terrible maladie, la peste, fait mourir la moitié des 8000 habitants de la ville.

Époque Moderne :

Le cours Saleya aujourd’hui

La ville de Nice s’embellit ( devient plus belle) ! De nombreuses églises sont construites. On casse le mur autour de la ville et on construit le cours Saleya.

Le roi de France Louis XIV fait casser l’ancien château sur la colline en 1705. On construit le premier port de Nice : le « port Lympia ».

Époque Contemporaine :

Les habitants sont de plus en plus nombreux et il faut agrandir la ville.

On agrandit le port en creusant dans la terre.

La ville de Nice devient française en 1860 et devient une ville touristique très à la mode pour les riches anglais et russes. Ils arrivent par train à la gare Thiers.

Les riches touristes étrangers se promènent sur la promenade des Anglais et dorment dans des hôtels de luxe : l’hôtel du Negresco et l’hotel Régina.
