International Women’s Day

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am in front of this conference room today to speak to you about a subject that is very close to my heart, genderinequality in sport in particular.

Indeed, I feel the direct consequences of this inequality since I am a football player myself. I speak today on behalf of all women who fight as much as see twice as men to practice their passions. For example, men automatically find themselves in the best possible conditions to exercise their sport and their passion (grounds maintained, schedules adapted infrastructures, equipment, supervision) while women usually find themselves training late on courts or in secondary stadiums with old equipment.

Nevertheless, these women who reap little in comparison with men and in relation to the efforts they provide. In fact, the figures speak for themselves Ada Hegerberg, the best paid footballer in the world, receives 400,000 a year while Cristiano Ronaldo receives 31 million euros a year, which represents only 1% of her salary.

That is why I am keen to speak today to those who are fighting to reduce these inequalities, those who are helping to advance tomorrow, because it is by promoting women’s sport that it will develop and evolve under the conditions it deserves.

I would like to conclude by saying that women’s sport should not be so highly rated because in our time and thanks to many women like Simone Weil, Elisabeth Freeman a large part of the population has finally understood the importance of women in our society. As the famous writer Georges Sand put it: « The desire of a woman is never doubtful, since she risks her honour there ».
