Diamond Rain

The Diamonds Rain really exists  ! Indeed, there is some of this in the gaseous planets. The enormous size of gas giant planets such as Saturn, Neptune and Uranus creates such extreme pressure within their atmosphere that carbon atoms crystallize and become diamonds. Researches estimate that around a million kilos of diamonds rain on Saturn each year. So, if you want to become rich there is a sure way of doing this, you just need to go to the planet Saturn. But of course that to get the diamonds you would need to survive unimaginable pressure, toxic chemical winds and deadly electrical currents, so it’s probably easier to rob a bank !

Doing odd jobs is a good way to become independent and have a sense of responsibility. Doing odd jobs also allows you to earn money, gain work experience, be punctual and have better relational skills. However, doing odd jobs can sometimes be exhausting and takes a lot of time in your schedule. But doing odd jobs can be very interesting and can help you to save money for certain things.

Gran Turismo

Gran Turismo is a racing video game designed by the Japanese studio Polyphony Digital, directed by Kazunori Yamauchi, and produced by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation range of consoles. The game is renowned for its visual realism and the depth of its driving sensations. This racing game proposes circuits that are faithful to reality. The gameplay and physical models of the cars are also highly realistic.

In 2023, the film Gran Turismo was released. It was directed by Neill Blomkamp. It is an adaptation of the video game and is also inspired by the story of Jann Mardenborough, who became a professional driver through the GT Academy in 2011. Indeed, in 2011 the GT Academy proposed a competition where over 53,000 racing drivers in the making competed in Gran Turismo 5’s online time trials. The 32 best players in the country competed in Orlando, with the fastest 16 qualifying for the final at England’s Silverstone Race Circuit, with a chance to become a professional racing driver as their reward ! At the time, everyone thought it was a crazy idea, that it was impossible to turn an ordinary player into a professional race driver. The legendary Silverstone Race Circuit was a complete stranger to our top 16 competitors in the USA. Very few of them knew the track layout, the history of F1 or even that of this legendary circuit. And they had no idea of the physical and psychological challenges that awaited them. With the aim of electing the best driver at the end of the season, exceptional judges were permanently on site to guide the players and evaluate their every move. Of the 16 who started, only 4 were able to climb aboard a 370Z and cross the finish line. In the end, it was Jann Mardenborough who won and became the ultimate winner of GT Academy 2011 !

Saint Patrick’s Day

Saint Patrick’s Day, celebrated on March 17, is a Christian holiday that celebrates Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.

Saint Patrick was an evangelizer of Ireland. The legend tells that he would have driven all the snakes out of the country, symbolizing the conversion of the Irish people.

The festival is already celebrated by the Irish since the 9th and 10th centuries. It became a legal holiday in the Irish calendar on March 16, 1607. Saint Patrick’s Day is a public holiday in Ireland.

Saint Patrick’s Day is progressively become a civil holiday, symbol of recognition for all Irish people. It is in the United States, in Boston, that the first celebration of this holiday took place in 1737. The first official parade took place in New York in 1762. In Ireland, the first Saint Patrick’s Day parade took place in Dublin in 1931.

In the 1990s, the Irish government began a campaign to associate Saint Patrick’s Day with a festival to promote Irish culture. The government forms a group called the Saint Patrick Festival, which has the aim of :

  • offer a national festival that ranks among the largest celebrations in the world
  • to create energy and excitement across Ireland through innovation, creativity, investment and commercial activity
  • provide an opportunity and motivation for people of Irish origin to assist and join in imaginative and expressive celebrations
  • to project, internationally, a fair image of Ireland as a creative, professional and sophisticated country.

The first Saint Patrick Festival took place on March 17, 1996. The festival stretches on 5 days. The event progressively became more secular. Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated not only by the Irish, but also by cities all over the world, including Buenos Aires (Argentina), New York (USA) and Montreal (Canada). The festival is characterized by the color green and symbols of Irish culture. During this celebration you must wear green clothes, assist at parades and festivals, and consume Irish food and drink.

The Olympic Games

The Olympic Games (OG) are major international sporting events, bringing together summer and winter sports. Thousands of athletes participate in different competitions every 4 years, for each modern Olympiad.

The Olympic Games prolong the tradition of the ancient Greek Olympic Games. Indeed, originally the Olympic Games took place in the religious center of Olympia in ancient Greece from the 8th century before J.C.to the 4th century after J.C. They took place every 4 years. The Olympic Games were then renovated by Pierre de Coubertin in 1894, when he founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The IOC became the governing organization of the Olympic movement whose structure and decisions are defined by the Olympic Charter.

The first Summer Olympic Games took place in Athens in 1896. During this period, the Olympic Games were reserved for men only and it is only in 1900 that women took part in the Olympic Games for the first time in Paris. Later, the IOC adapted the Olympic Games to the social changes of the 20th century, with the establishment of the Winter Olympics (Chamonix, 1924), the Paralympics (Rome, 1960) and the Olympic Youth Games (2010). There are also the creation of many other mixed trials.

The celebration of the Olympic Games includes lots of rituals and symbols, like the Olympic flag and the Olympic flame, as well as the Olympic torch relay and the opening and closing ceremonies.
