Marilyn Monroe led a tumultuous personal life, with romantic relationships with Hollywood stars such as Clark Gable, Joe DiMaggio and Arthur Miller. She also suffered from mental health problems and was hospitalised on several occasions.

Marilyn Monroe died on 5 August 1962, aged 36, in her home in Brentwood, California. The cause of her death remained unknown for many years, but it was determined to be an overdose of sleeping pills.
