Introduction : genre of the document, author, year of creation, goal.

Question : How is the woman on the picture portrayed ?

Description : what is there on the picture ? Describe the woman

Analysis : What does the slogan mean ? What feeling does it appeal to ?

Look at the elements of the picture ? How do they contrast with the woman ?

Is there a paradox here ?

Conclusion : Is this propaganda ? What role played these women in World War 1 ? Was it a traditional role or not ?

PROPAGANDA or CARICATURE

CARICATURE :

The nature of a caricature  is a drawing of a portrait.

What does it do ? It distorts or exagerates certain *features.

What is the intention of the artist ? The artist wants to ridicule or satirize a subject, and to expose hypocrisy and corruption.

Who is generally *under attack ? Public figures and politicians are usual targets.

What is the reaction of a democracy to a caricature ? It tolerates caricature.

What media publishes caricatures ? The press publish caricature.

Are caricatures neutral ? Caricatures are a version of editorial opinion, which means they are often on the same political side as the newspaper or magazine that publishes  them.

Can they simplify debate too much ? They are accused of being populist.

What is specific to satire ? There is a moral aspect of satire because it exposes hypocrisy and corruption.

PROPAGANDA :

What is the nature of propaganda ? It is an information system.

What does it do ? It manipulates people into thinking and acting.

What is different between debate and propaganda ? Propaganda has a specific goal, whereas debate is an exchange of ideas.

What is negative about propaganda ? Propaganda selects, distorts or omits information with a goal.

What do educators do ?  They show difference and variety and they teach to collect evidence and think.

What political regimes used propaganda ? The nazi regime and the soviet regime used propaganda. Power uses propaganda.

Is propaganda used in fields that are not political ?It is used in advertising to make people buy goods or services.

PICK ANY PICTURE IN THE PREZI PRESENTATION. DESCRIBE IT AND DECIDE WHETHER IT IS CARICATURE OR PROPAGANDA.
