b- Write your message and answer the usual questions :

Where did you go ? How did you go ? Who did you see ? What did you do ? (give at least two examples and add one negative example) What was the weather like ? Did you enjoy your weekend ?

You may write about your real weekend OR invent  everything.

Have a look at my postcard below.

Dear students,

I hope you are all OK.
Last weekend, I flew to Quarantine city. The plane was very comfortable and I watched one of my favourite musicals : Hair.
Then, I got a taxi to Quarantine City and I found a nice hotel. Everybody had a mask, but I saw George Clooney and Timothee Chalamet sitting at the bar with Rihanna. I went shopping for good books and I had dinner in my room. Of course, I chose a chocolate dessert. The next day, I went around Quarantine city for a walk. It is beautiful, but I felt lonely because of the Covid instructions. Finally, I came back to Angers and realized there is no place like home, especially in Covid times.

I hope to see you soon at school.

Best,

MCC

WRITING : the Shelfie Challenge

TAKE A SHELFIE ! NOT a selfie !

This is a selfie. BORING !

This is a shelfie :   a photo of your *shelf. OK ! this one is boring too !

*a shelf = étagère/ shelves  = étagères

But let’s make it interesting ! Here are the instructions :

PART 1

A – Draw or take a photo of a celebrity’s shelf. Add the objects/books/ photos they love..Dessine ou prends une photo de l’étagère d’une célébrité, ajoute objets, livres, photo aimés par cette personne.

B- Draw or take a photo of someone’s shelf. Add the objects/books/photos  they love … Invent their life…Dessine ou prends une photo de l’étagère d’une célébrité, ajoute objets, livres, photo aimés par cette personne. Invente sa vie.

C- Draw or take a photo of your shelf. Add the objects/books/photos  YOU love …dessine ou prends une photo de ton étagère. Ajoute objets/livres/photos que TU aimes.

PART 2

Write about the picture in English :

  • say where the objects come from, who gave them to you, what they represent or what they mean for you. Dites d’où viennent ces objets, qui vous les a donnés, ce q’ils signifient pour vous.
  • describe the shelf : on the shelf, on the right of the shelf, on the left of the shelf, in the middle, on the top shelf, on the bottom shelf, next to, between, behind, in front of… sur l’étagère, à droite , à gauche de l’étagère, au milieu, sur l’étagère du haut, sur l’étagère du bas, à côté de… entre, derrière, devant
  • There is + singular. There is a photo of me when I was 5 years old. Il y a suivi du singulier
  • There are + plural. There are books I read them every day. I read this when I was… Il y a suivi du pluriel

Voici 3 exemples, avec 3 niveaux différents.

Niveau A1: This is  my shelfie. There are boxes for my earrings. There is my collection of Wonder Woman objects, and there is a photo of my children on the right. There is a photo of me at school in front of the boxes. In the middle, there is a vase with moss. I love nature. Next to the vase, there is a sea-shell in a glass dome.

Niveau A2: This is my shelfie. There are boxes where I keep my earrings on the left. There is a black and white teddy bear from Boston on the right. Some students gave it to me 4 years ago. It is sitting on the books I am reading. Reading is one of my favourite activities. There are three Wonder Woman objects, because I’m a fan. There are photos of my children when they were little, and a photo of me in a dance costume. There is a sea shell in a glass dome, it is a souvenir from my father.

Niveau B1 : This is my own shelfie : there are round boxes on the left, with my collection of earrings in them. In front of the boxes, there is a photo of me when I was 5. I was participating in a dance show with my school. In front, there are a few Wonder Woman objects that my friends gave me (because I am a fan of the comics). In the middle, there is a vase with rocks covered in green moss, as I love nature. It has a soothing effect on me. In font of the moss, there is a sea shell under a glass dome. My father gave it to me, and that is the last of a huge collection we had, which makes it very meaningful to me.

Behind the shell, there is a photo of my 3 children when they were little. On the right, there are the books that I am currently reading (this is something I never get tired of). On top of  the books, there is a teddy bear that some students gave me in Boston, and in front of the teddy bear, there is a small yellow wooden toy, which got a prize for design –  I’m very interested in design.
Last but not least, there is a fake banknote with the face of Barack Obama on it. It is a souvenir from a trip to New York that I took with my family. Some proud Black American men gave it to me in 2010, because they were  so happy to support candidate B. Obama !

Come on, show me your shelfies !

Example for 6èmes :

This fiction character is world famous. She’s a girl in a story, with a rabbit, a clock and an evil Queen….Can you guess ?
