Graffitti artist Keith Haring painted a piece of the Wall. You can always get some inspiration by graffitti artist Banksy‘s paintings on walls all over the world, especially in Palestine.

Before the wall fell, Sting sang this song.

THE SINGH TWINS

Rabindra and Amrit are twin sisters, who were born in London in 1966. They attended the Convent school, and first intended to study to become doctors.  The Twins began to develop their unique style of painting. They drew inspiration from the Indian Miniature tradition which fascinated them some five years earlier when they visited India for the first time. By 1987 they had chosen this tradition as the most pertinent means of expressing their artistic and cultural identity.  They have since steadily built up a reputation as accomplished artists. In 1994, they were elected  members of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts. In september 1998 they were invited to exhibit their work in Paris and Amsterdam.

They  give lectures on their work and have taught workshops on different aspects of Indian art and culture.

When they spoke about their inspiration, they said:

« Ever since visiting India for the first time in 1980, we have been fascinated by the indian miniature painting tradition – not least because of the exquisite detail, […]. For us it was such a highly appealing style whose rich narrative and symbolic character made it a superb medium of communication that we felt transcended cultural and historical barriers. ». And  « the desire to make a real difference through our work has fuelled our determination to establish an international profile that demands acceptance on our own terms -creating a recognised platform for serious debate which has a meaningful impact in challenging pervading social, political and cultural attitudes. ».

Their artwork is really colorful. It represents a few landmarks of  New York city : the Empire State Building with King Kong on the top of the Chrysler Building, China Town, The Statue of  Liberty and the Twin Towers. They painted two sorts of “Indians”: Native Americans and Indians from the country India. The people are eating at a Chinese restaurant.

Twombly Cy.

cy-twombly

Twombly Cy was born April 25, 1928 in Lexington in Virginia so he is 81 years old and he is an American.

Twombly studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. From 1950 to 1951, he studied at the Art Students League of New York, where he met Robert Rauschenberg, who encouraged him to attend Black Mountain College near Asheville, North Carolina. At Black Mountain in 1951 and 1952 he studied with Franz Kline, Robert Motherwell and Ben Shahn, and met John Cage. The Kootz Gallery in New York organised Twombly’s first solo exhibition in 1951. In 1952, Twombly received a grant from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, which enabled him to travel to North Africa, Spain, Italy, and France. Upon his return in 1953, Twombly served in the army as a cryptologist, an activity that left a distinct mark on his artistic style. In 1959, Twombly went to Italy, settling permanently in Rome. It was during this period that he began to create his first abstract sculptures.

He is an American artist well known for his large-scale, freely scribbled, calligraphic-style graffiti paintings, on solid fields of mostly gray, tan, or off-white colors. He exhibits his paintings worldwide. Twombly paintings blur the line between drawing and painting. Many of his best-known paintings of the late 1960s are reminiscent of a school blackboard. His paintings of the late 1950s, early 1960s might be reminiscent of long term accumulation of bathroom graffiti. Twombly had at this point discarded painting figurative, representational subject-matter, citing the line or smudge  as its proper subject. Later, many of his paintings and works on paper moved into “romantic symbolism”.
