Southpaw

Southpaw is for me the best movie that I’ve seen in 2015, I cried several times during watching the movie because it is a emotional movie. Usually I don’t watch action movies because I don’t really like this kind of movie, I prefer horror movies, fantastic movies and tragic movies.                                                                                               But this movie changed my opinon because there is a beautiful and emotional story in this movie : the story of Billy Hope, a famous boxer, this is the synopsis :  « Billy Hope leads a lavish lifestyle with his beautiful wife Maureen and her daughter Leila. He was able to offer this life dream thanks to league titles in world boxing. His perfect world falls apart when his wife is killed. At the bottom of the hole, Billy is ruined and lost custody of her daughter who is pulled, because justice believes he is no longer able to fulfill his role as father. While his entourage abandoned him, Billy tries to rebuild himself from Tick Willis, a former boxer now coach and manager of a boxing gym . Billy will have to start at the bottom of the ladder to regain the trust and custody of her daughter »                                                                                                                           The story is very sad, he had a wife, a daughter, many friends, a luxury house, a luxury car, a career  and overnight he has no wife, no daughter, no house, nothing. He was at the height of glory and he is now at the bottom of the hole, he lost everything.

My favorite moments are when his wife died because it looks like so real, he cries and he asks help and he holds her in his arms. This moment is very intense

And this moment when his daughter is angry about him so he tries to get her out

I think this story was already happened to someone, because somepeople already lived this kind of story, lose everything overnight. But Billy Hope keeps hope to recover his life, his daughter and recover his career.

THE LONGEST RIDE

Today I’m going to talk about a movie released this year, which completely broke my heart. The longest ride is a film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks novel entitled as well ‘the longest ride’.
This film was directed by George Tillman Jr. You may not know the movie; however, it features two actors having a pretty great fam thanks to their names. Those actors are Scoot Eastwood (son of the famous director Clint Eastwood) and Oona Chaplin (Charlie Chaplin’s granddaughter).
Well, if we just watch the movie poster, we can suppose that the film is only about a love story. Yet, more than a simple romantic film, it shows two similar stories, two different lives which have many similarities. Sophia and Luke, two young people, live in North Caroline and had just fallen in love. But because of their life’s aspirations, they thought they could never be together. Indeed, Luke lives for rodeo whereas Sophia lives for art and has to go to Manhattan for her studies. Nevertheless on a rainy night, just after a dinner they had together, an unexpected event brought them closer together: not only did they save an old, they also save his whole life story that had been put into letters. Since then Sophia befriended with this old man. Afterwards, she became aware of all the concessions that the old man and his wife had to make to love and live more. In the same way, the old man’s experience will have an impact on Sophia and Luke’s life.
I admit that the first quarter of the movie didn’t really appeal to me. But since the emergence of Ira (the old man) the story takes a new turn. Indeed, we see his life since he met his first love at the beginning of the forties. This movie shows us that life is all about choices and decisions, and that why I love it.

The Leftovers by Damon Lindelof and Tom Perotta

Hello, guys ! Today, I will talk about a drama series named The Leftovers, created by Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta. This series is based on Tom Perrotta’s book which has the same name as the series (in French, its name is Les Disparus de Mapleton). Actually, two seasons have aired and a third and last season is going to come out this year.

The story takes place one day, a 14th October like the others. This day, 2% of the global population disappears without any explanation… Three days later, we follow the every-day life of people in the little town of Mapleton. Like all the others, they have lost neighbors, friends and lovers since the mysterious event of the 14th October they called the “Sudden Departure”. Life continues, but nothing is like before anymore. Nobody has forgotten what happened and all the people who disappeared. Kevin Garvey, the Chief of the local Police, has seen his family completely change since the terrible event and has to deal with the consequences. Everybody wants to move on but a mysterious cult, with unknown intentions, called the “Guilty Remnant” emerges…

The Leftovers is a not a series like the others. Lots of people don’t like this series much because they found that’s too slow and the plot is not very interesting at all. But, I definitely don’t agree with them. All the things (the characters, the story and the mystery) can fascinate and upset us. Yeah, this is not a series with a lot of action, twists and deaths. In The Leftovers, this is not the plot that make the characters but the characters that move forward the plot of the series. The music is also very beautiful. This series is gorgeous and moving. I don’t say that everybody is going to love this series, but I can say that you can check an eye one and you will see after ! 😉

Edward Scissorhands

Edward Scissorhands is an american romantic dark fantasy by Tim Burton that came out in 1990, starring one of my favorite actor, Johnny Depp, and Winona Ryder, Dianne Wiest and others.

It shows the story of Edward, a young man created by an inventor. This latter died before finishing Edward, letting him with scissors instead of hands in his castle. Then he is hosted by one family of the city but falls in love with the daughter, Kim. At the beginning he is welcomed by everyone in the neighbourhood, everyone likes him and make him work with his « hands » by cutting the bushes in an original way. An incindent make all these people hate him then and he runs away from them by going back to his castle.

I’ve watched this movie several times since I’m a kid and I love to watch it during winter time.

The Nightmare Before Christmas by Tim Burton.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Disney and Touchstone movie directed by Henry Selick, produced and co-written by Tim Burton in 1993. In this film, we find the love of black story, the fascination for the myths, and the defense of a lonely and misunderstood character. The movie is in first a musical comedy. It is from the ten songs composed by Danny Elfman as the architecture of the scenario is established. Although, some musics from the film was covered by popular singers, such exemble “This is Halloween” which had a great success for the famous Marilyn Manson (If you want listen the music, you can here ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jU6iP0WLsU8).

The movie tell the story of Jack Skellington (the Pumpkin King in the Halloween town). He was preparing the next Halloween party. But the terrible Jack is tired of this repetitive and monotonous life, decides to leave. Then he discovers the Christmas Town. After this adventure, he returns in his home with an original idea : and if, this year, the Halloween residents would celebrate the strange celebration of Christmas ? I think, the Halloween town is the dark figure of the hidden face of American society is the central context of the film.

The Nightmare Before Christmas show an opposition between two worlds. This film summons two worlds, like Halloween that represents the “city of the excluded”, deprived, with ugly characters. But also the city of “good citizens” who represents all that is clean, perfect, everything is smooth and waited. These two worlds are opposed. First on a symbolic level : these are two legendary symbols of contemporary American society. Secondly, visually because Halloween represents the gothicism who opposes the Christmas sentimentality. The architecture of the image in the Halloween world consists of broken lines, diagonals, architectures and corresponding to the physical aspect of the residents. In the world of Christmas, the architecture obeys the usual horizontal and vertical. Everything is calculated on very rigorous and scientific bases, as the “mathematics” contours of the physical residents. There is desire to show that the unexpected is not appropriate.

At the end, of this super and amazing movie, a question arises : “Who are the monsters ?” Because the character of Jack (a priori the villain) is looking for something positive and his friends too. The “good”people, in the Christmas town, don’t want them, and don’t want learn to know them. Finally, we have a trap but also a moral lesson. It’s not because you don’t look great in the exterior, you are bad in the interior. You can look a beauty people in the exterior but really bad in the interior. The Nightmare Before Christmas is the perfect exemple.

The Maze Runner – Wes Ball

I’m going to speak about a very famous movie which all the teenagers know : of course, The Maze Runner by Wes Ball or more know in french with the title Le Labyrinthe. This movie is adapted by the first volume of the science fiction novel by James Dashner which was published in 2012. The movie was published in 2014.

He has no more memory of the outside world, except for of strange dreams about a mysterious organization called W.C.K.D. By connecting some elements of his past, with indications which he discovers within the labyrinth, Thomas hopes to find a way to escape it…

Every month, a new amnesic young man appears in « the glad » which is surrounded with the labyrinth. The doors of the labyrinth open every in the morning and close every in the evening. The labyrinth has 8 different sections which change every day : the exploraiton of the labyrinth is very complicated ! The difficulty of the labyrinth is also made with the mysterious creatures which are inside because they attack every people…

I found this movie very fascinating with many new developments, especially at the end… The continuation is also excellent ! And I recommend them ! If you like the science fiction and the adventure, this movie is made for you…

MARLEY-Documentary Film

MARLEY is an British and American film directed by Kevin MacDonald, he went out in 2012 and is a documentary film who traces the life of Robert Nesta Marley. It cumulates interview of the family and the friend of Bob Marley (The Wailers, Rita Marley, Ziggy Marley…) and archive image of the life of this great man who was Bob Marley. This film is stuffed of music of Bob Marley the more and the less famous. In my opinion this film can make you loved Bob Marley (for the little minority who don’t loved him). I advises this film for someone who want to know more about Bob Marley or just for something who loved this man. I will ending by say that this film is very spiritual and in my opinion that the best documentary and the more complete that I ever seen.

Good Watching !

Gangs of New York, Martin Scorsese, 2002.

Gangs of New York is a extraordinary movie, directed by Martin Scorsese in 2002. It’s a historical movie of the history of cinema, for me, because the story speaks about the birth of New york.

The film have a slogan « America was born in the streets », and I find that is a very beautiful sentence.

I saw this movie in original version with subtitles in french. And it’s better than french !

So, the movie tells the story about a young boy, Amsterdam Vallon (Leoonardo DiCaprio) who wants take a revenge against a gang leader, Bill Le Boucher.

Bill killed Amsterdam’s father, when he was a child. And years later, he wants to find him and take his revenge.

So there are lot of wars in the streets, and step by step Amsterdam finds his enemy.

In the story, Amsterdam falls in love to Jenny Everdeane, and it’s so cute !

In parallel, Amsterdam found step by step a very great team to beat Bill.

After the most War in the street that America has never seen, New york can’t be the same.

500 days of summer

Hello hello!

For my third article I’ve chosen to talk about a movie which is definitely my favourite. But I have to warn you : it is a very mushy romance.. that I absolutely enjoyed. No kidding, I’m pretty sure I already watched it at least twenty times… But I digress. It was directed by Marc Webb and released in 2009. The main actors are the gorgeous Zooey Deschanel and the awesome (also handsome…) Joseph Gordon-Levitt. This movie is, as you may have guessed, 500 days of summer. Enough talking, let me summarize it to you. I hope it will make you want to watch it!

« This is a story of boy meets girl, but you should know upfront, this is not a love story. This is a story about love. » Here is how the movie starts. And I would say that it perfectly summarize the entire movie. Indeed, Tom Hansen is a young romantic man who, to his biggest regret, works in a greeting card company. One day, he met Summer Finn, his boss’s assistant. Immediatly, he felt love at first sight. That’s when he will awkwardly try to conquer her. But unfortunately for him, Summer is not confident in love. She always refused to have a boyfriend since her parents divorced. Therefrom we will see (in disorder) the five hundred days after their meeting. Day after day, feelings will appear. Even if Tom is self confident about his own for his beloved, Summer is afraid to engage herself in a serious relation. As a consequence, she will not hesitate to slow down the things. However, Tom will keep doing his best to make Summer falling in love with him. Some days will be full of happiness and love, while others will be dark and empty.

What will happen next? How will those five hundred days end? Well, you will have to watch the movie if you want to know. And I can assure you it is not a waste of time! (only if you’re a sensitive girl? ahah.)

Moreover, I have to say that how the movie was directed (all the flashbacks, the fact that the scenes are in disorder, how we see some scenes, the actor’s play…) make the movie even better.

Please, let me know if you have already watch it or if you are going to!

Gran Torino is an American movie create and produce by Clint Eastwood, it was released in 2008. The film is in the top rated 2008.

Sense8

Every human being has his own knowledge, skills, intelligence. Imagine if you could share them. This is what the Wachowski ( Matrix filmmakers ) have implemented in their new TV series called Sense8.

The title tells us a lot about the blurb. Indeed it’s a play on words : sense8 means sensate and it’s a synonym of aware .

The story revolves around eight people, spread throughout the world, which suddenly become connected intellectually, emotionally and sensorially .The show explores themes that its directors believe to be generally ignored by the series of science fiction, including politics, identity, sexuality, gender and religion.

Here is a a little presentation of the « sensate » :

Wolfgang Bogdanov , a burglar born in East Berlin, lives in Berlin, a complex family history.

Kala Dandekar , a druggist from Mumbai, engaged to a man she doesn’t love.

Riley Blue , a DJ from London with a troubled past, a native of Reykjavik, Iceland.

Will Gorky , a policeman haunted by an unsolved murder during his childhood from Chicago.

Capheus (nicknamed  » Van Damn  » ) , a minibus driver in Nairobi, Kenya, which is desperate to earn money to cure his mother.

Sun Bak , daughter of a powerful businessman she works in Seoul, South Korea, and practices kickboxing .

Nomi Marks ( born Michael Marks ), a trans woman , blogger and hacker from San Francisco.

Lito Rodriguez , a famous telenovela actor nicknamed « El caído  » living in Mexico City, who conceals his homosexuality.

I recommend this great show to everyone . You’ll see how thrilling and intriguing it is ! You’ll wonder if one day it will happen to us and if science will manage to explain it.

I killed my mother, Xavier Dolan

poster                                                  Hello everybody!
This time, I would like to write about an impressive film, that was only directed by a 20-year-old film director and then, shown during the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation.
« I Killed My Mother » is Dolan’s debut movie, one could also identify this film as a semi-autobiographical story.
Dolan tells us the love-hate relationship of a 17-year-old Hubert Minel, played par Dolan himself, and Chantal Lemming, his mother. Hubert is very talented with words, also artistically, but he seems to grow only to despise every single aspect of his mother, from the way she eats, her old fashioned and kitsch pull-overs as well,  to the fact that she applies make-up while driving… Discussions between them become shouting matches.
fightThey sometimes are so angry against each other that they burst into laughter, understanding how absurd their behaviours are. Hubert cannot stand when she forgets what she promised the day before or how she manoeuvres him into doing something she wants…She annoys him so much, that he even told a teacher that her mother was dead…A sad news, that her mother will learn, then turn up in his classroom furiously, screaming a false hilarious Do I look dead to you ?”. Both of them acknowledge that they can’t live with each other anymore, but perhaps not without each other either.
The first scene of the movie is a close-up in black and white of Hubert’s eyes, as he tries to find out what he wants to say to his camera. These videos allow us to understand his thoughts and to have his own point of view, which makes us deeply understand how he feels.videos More than this, the film tackles many important topics, such as the homosexuality of the main characters, the bullying because of his identity, his relationship with his boyfriend, his forbidden friendship with his french teacher, how to live without catching one’s father attention…

» I can look at her, talk to her, sit next to her, but… I can’t be her son. I could be anyone’s son, but not hers »

This is a very honest film that succeeds so well because it says the truth about relationships between humans, that everybody can recognize. We all fully agree then, that we all have the weird ability to hurt people we love the most. The actors are also truly touching and convincing, especially Dolan himself.

Have you heard of this film? Have you ever seen another one of this film director? What did you think about it?

We need to Talk about Kevin by Lynne Ramsay.

We Need to Talk about Kevin is an american film by the Scotish Lynne Ramsay. She comes back with a brutal movie. Through a hate story between a mother, Eva and her son, Kevin. The film tell a flashback and adopts the perspective of the mother devastated. Indeed, the movie begin a painful history of her relationship with her son, step by step, we see the trajectory from childhood to teenager, Kevin led to commit the unthinkable.

After a painful birth, their relationship already bathed in blood, tears and cries. The baby will not stop screaming, and the mother realizes she has lost her tranquility and does not support it. In a terrible scene, Eve stops near a construction site with her baby in a stroller, but she prefer the sound of the jackhammer to the cries of her child.

Then, she « sacrificed » her career to raise Kevin. She must give up city life that she loves, to give to her son the advantages of the suburb. So many sacrifices she made for her son and she will not reward. At 8, Kevin wear again diapers, probably to annoy his mother and force her to change them. Kevin repainted with his paint gun the room freshly decorated of his mother. As a teenager he spend his time on porn sites, to masturbate in the bathroom without bothering to close the door. He never stop bully his little sister Celly.

We need to Talk about Kevin, is a psychological movie, interresting to watch. In brief, Kevin made a big splash in the gallery terrible children to the movies. The movie is a death struggle between a mother and her son.

Fahrenheit 451

Image

Fahrenheit 451 is a science fiction novel written by Ray Bradbury (who is an American writter) and published in 1953. This novel is in fact a dystopian novel. It’s strange because ,here, the firemen doesn’t put out the fire, but they light up. The main character is Guy Montag a firefighter which has books, although it’s forbidden by the Law. In this book, the population is only distracted by watching TV, or driving their cars at full speed. But despite these distractions, we understand that people don’t feel well; they attempt suicide, but they don’t remember it.

Fahrenheit 451 was adapted into a movie in 1966 by a French filmmaker François Truffaut.

Chappie

Chappie is an American and Mexican film directed by Neil Blomkamp, released in March 2015.

We are in a futuristic period, in a city where criminality is the most reported: Johannesburg. Robotic force patrolls are created to deal with these lawbreakers and assure to keep the city prosperous. Deon, an employee of the company, is working on a secret creation of his own: to be able to insert a memory card in a robot capable of giving to the robot a real conscious. It would have feelings of his own, to be able think and decide of his actions. A robot called no 22, is pointed out in the first scenes: he is destroyed he is on every single mission, not a lucky one I suppose. He is at the end sent to be crushed in a pile of robots. Deon creeps into that room and picks him up, he is chosen to test his experience. On the way home, he is attacked by a couple named Ninja (Waktin Tudor Jones) and Yolandi (Yolandi Visser) they squat an unoccupied factory and deal with drugs and all sorts of illegal doings… he is forced to pull up at there « home ». Ninja dreams of having one of these robots for his own and while Chappie (his conscious name) is growing, he will try to train him as being a gangster.  Even by the protection of Yolandi and Deon, Chappie will be torn between a child innocently discovering the world and himself and the toxic behaviour and treatement Ninja imposes him. After being caught several times commiting criminal acts (he doesn’t realise what he is doing) the robot company considers him like a potential criminal and decides to destroy Chappie. Vincent (another employee) has possession of a giant robot connects human consciousness to machines with a helmet, and sets off to kill them all. What he doesn’t know is that Deon has one of those helmets and will try to transfer Chappie’s conciousness into a new robot body so he would live much longer. Will he succeed? Are they going to face Vincent ant his monster and survive? I will propose you to watch and find out!

I really found this film amazing because I love science fiction and the theme of human feelings and concsiousness, a really good idea. I find it really good to put in a touching film that is based on robots, who are cold and emotionless. And it astonished me to find two popular singers as actors aswell (olandi and Waktin).

into the wild

« Into the wild » is a novel writted by Jon Krakauer in 1996 and adapted in movie by Sean Penn in 2007.

This book is a biographic novel who related the life of Christopher Jonhson McCandless, a young man , just graduate. This young man decided to left the civilisation and to lives alone in Alaska, regardless of the danger that represents. He mets some people who helped him to reach his goal. He passed 2 years lonesome in the wild but finally dies to intoxication.

On the beginning of each chapter, there are a short passage of poetry like Lord Byron or an extract of an other novel likes « White Fang » of Jack London. All of this extract talks about the relation human/nature.

Into the wild is my favourite book, because it shows how the civilation shoud be more dangerous than nature , and how many the humans relations cant be important for shared some point of view. For the film, I find it really amazing because the nature’s picture are very beautiful and it’s faithful of the original story.

The fault in our stars – John Green

Hey guys ! I’m going to speak about a famous book (i’m sure you know it ! ) which is also adapted to the cinema.

It’s The fault in our Stars , a Young adult novel/ realistic fiction , written in 2012 by the American John Green and later , released in 2014 to the cinema. It’s the sixth Novel after “Looking for Alaska” and too “An abundance of Katherines”. It was a best seller in the world ! (I’m serious !).

It’s the most famous book of John Green now. Do you know that the title of the book is inspired by Act 1 , scene 2 of Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar ? ( “The faults , dear Brutus is not in our stars ! But in ourselves, that we are underlings”)

It’s the story of a sixteen-years old girl, Hazel Grace Lancaster ,who has a serious disease : Thyroïd Cancer. She is seriously sick and must have a cannula with an oxygen cylinder to breathe.

Her Mother wants her to go to a support group “the literal heart of Jesus”. She met Augustus Waters, a seventeen-years old boy, who is an Amputee because he is suffering from a very serious disease too. He is here to support his bestfriend, Isaac, who is blind. Hazel and Augustus become friends immediately!

Hazel love a book “An imperial affliction” written by Peter Van Houten , and one day she decided to lend it to Augustus. It’s the story of a girl who is suffering from a cancer too, like them. But there is any conclusion… Augustus love this novel and as he wants to know what’s happen next ( like hazel! ) , he write a mail to the author and hope that he is going to answer.. It’s the beginning of a beautiful story of love and friendship between Hazel and Augustus.

——————————————————————————————————————-

It’s a sad story because it’s about 2 teenagers who suffer from cancer, and they know they are going to die, Hazel said she is a “grenade” , she can explode at any time !

John Green is an excellent writer and make of it a beautiful story with love, friendship, humor, it’s just amazing !

When I read this book ? It’s the first book I read, written by John Green, and personally I love !

I saw the movie and it is really close to the story of the book ! It’s a good screen adaptation! I recommended it to you ! I have no preference between the movie and the novel….

Have you read the book or saw the movie ? Have you a preference ? And did you like it ?

We know nothing about his past. In the movie, he shoot accidents, murder, all that can be shocking and sell his images to daily information. This character is performed by Jake Gyllenhall. The attention of the film is centered around him, it becomes detestable his expressions are scary and fascinating. He does not hesitate to staging to have better picture. During progresses of the plot , he wants to control everybody who can be useful to improve his work. He do not hesitate to uses personnal information to do blackmail. Allowing it to have job he can define itself his salary. This character is sick, unstable but facinating.

To me this is a movie to see the night, there is a very dark atmosphere and best scenes happens during the night. I recommend this kind of movies that makes feel full of emotion without need incredible special effects.

The Walking Dead

Everyone must know The Walking dead as the famous series but in fact, you should know that it is a famous comic-book created by Robert Kirman and Tomy Moore in october 2003. The story shows us how a sheriff’s deputy named Rick Grimes try to survive in a post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested world with his family and friends. Still existing right now, The walking dead’s comic is one of the most influential comic of his generation with 24 volumes to his credit. The success of the comics have brought the creation of a TV show named also “The walking dead” adapted by Frank Darabont in 2010.

The walking dead show made its debut on AMC (which is a satellite television channel) on October 31st 2010. Since then, we can say that the show is the same that a movie experience.

The comics (such as the TV show) is a post-apocalyptic series focused on survivors. Some people can think that is only about zombie, but it’s more than that. Indeed, The walking dead is centered on the primary character of Rick Grimes. He is a sheriff’s deputy who wakes up from a coma after a shot in his body. He wakes up in an abandoned hospital. He discovers that everything he had know, is gone. And the world is now surrounded by zombies. Rick journeys to a safe zone in Atlanta determined to find his wife Lori and her son Carl. That’s the starting point of the story.

In my view, The walking dead is one of the greatest comic story and serie of the decade (with the tv show Breaking Bad). All mains characters have something to show about their personality. That’s why, I think, we love them.

Freedom Writers

Freedom Writers is a dramatic comedy film directed by Richard LeGravenese in 2006. It is an adaptation from the book « The Freedom Writers Diary : How A Teacher and 150 Teens Used Writing To Change Themselves And The World Around Them » by its full name. This book and this movie are based from a real story written by Erin Gruwell and her pupils. The film were graduate by the Humanity Prize.

Erin Gryell, a 23 young english teacher had choosen for his first job a high school of Long Beach in Los Angeles. The pupils of her class don’t care about learning and she decided to pull themselves together. Thanks to her involvment, she gradually managed, with tact and humor to make her pupils appreciating school and gave them her taste for writing.

I’ve seen this movie when i was younger and it marked me thanks to the moral that is released, besides, I think it was the good opportunity to talk about it here. I like the fact that the movie is based to a real story although sometimes i’ve found the film was a little bit cliché, overoptimistic. I’ve never seen a moment when the teacher had wanted to give up, she is always cheerful and strong-willed. For my part, even if i’ve found some weak points, you should see the movie or read the book because it can be an example in your life, and thanks to the boudless optimism, it can motivate you to take initiatives. Lastly, i think it is a beautiful lesson of life.

Carrie by Stephen King

The first Stephen King’s novel was Carrie, an horror novel published in 1974. This novel is not the most popular of his career, but it’s the most famous. King admits that it was because of his wife that he wrote this story : He had written three pages and give up, judging that his work was not good enough, but his wife took the pages, and after she read it, she encourage him to continue this story, and she was right.

The story is concentrated on Carrietta « Carrie » White. She’s a blonde haired girl, aged of seventeen years old who’s living at Chamberlain, in the Maine. She’s extremely shy and she always unnoticed. And she had the misfortune to be the victim of insults and hard persecutions from all the students of her school. Unfortunately, her mother, Margaret White, is not better : She is a Christian with very strange faith. All this became a torture for Carrie, it became a phobia. And she has the bad luck to not looks good.

In her life, Carrie doesn’t have any friends : she always all alone, and this nightmare is getting worse day by day.

One Day, after a session of sport, she gets her period for the first time in the shower. But her mother didn’t tell her about menstruation, so Carrie screamed and go found some helps. The others girls, rather than help her, prefered to laughed at her, and throw pantie liner on her. It’s exactly at this moment that something change inside the girl. Something that should have stay asleep. She’s got the power to move object or diforme it only with the thought.

And at this moment, Carrie absolutely knows that it was a possibilities to take a revenge on everything. The revenge becomes her aim.

This novel is really interesting and very creepy at the same time. Stephen King manages to make his readers focused on Carrie’s fate, and it’s really good to see this poor girl take a revenge after all that she’s been throught. Also, King based his story on true facts : Two girls that he had known in the past. Those girls were also victim, exactly like Carrie.

With this novel, Stephen King wanted to denounce the American Society at school and at home, with the tense atomosphere of some family. Anyone can be monstruous with anyone else, but THAT is montruous.

A lot of adaptations were released on this novel. Two of them are the most famous. The first Carrie released in 1976 by Brian De Palma, and the recently one, Carrie, released by Kimberly Peirce, in 2013. On the latter, Carrie was played by the talented Chloë Grace Moretz, and Margaret White was played by Julianne Moore.

Inception

After I loved the movie Interstellar, I discovered  Inception, from the same producer, whose name is  Christopher Nolan. This film is a science-fiction thriller which shows famous actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, etc…

The character played by DiCaprio, Dom Cobb, is an « extractor », a thief who steals someone’s secrets from his subconscious by entering his dreams. Then he becomes sought by the police considering what he does is illegal. Saito, his lastest target which the operation failed with, offers him the opportunity to try something renowned impossible until now : inception. It means that you implant an idea in a mind. Dom and his partner choose to accept the challenge but they will soon be disturbed by an unsuspected enemy.

In this movie, the characters alternate between dreams and reality, which will probably make you lose your mind ! It is better not to miss any scene and even to watch the movie twice to clarify the story.

I loved the particular ending and highly recommend to watch the movie !

The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith

The Vampire Diaries is a serie of novels written by L.J Smith. The first novel of this serie has been published in 1991, and the last one in 2007. These novels are kind of romance, horror, fantasy, and they are destined to young people, like teenagers.

The entire story takes place in Mystic Falls, a small town in Virginia. This town is a source of supernatural stories, and it’s known for a lot of act by vampires, werewolf and witches from Salem.
The story talks about Elena Gilbert, 17 years old, who lost her parents in a tragic car accident, and where she mysteriously survived. After one year, she met by chance Stefan Salvatore, a wonderful but strange boy, whose she completely falls in love. But after some time, she met Damon, who is Stefan’s brother. Damon he’s completely the opposite of Stefan : he’s the selfish one and the bad one. Despite his faults, a love triangle starts between them. But the things that doesn’t know Elena yet, is the biggest secret of the Salvatore brothers …

They are vampires.

This series of novels is one of the best, because of the originality of the story. L.J. Smith based her informations about true facts and she always wanted to make her books really realistic. The characters are really charming, and we have the possibilities to indentify ourselves to them. A lot of characters are in this story : There’s vampire, werewolf, doppelgänger, witches, and even hybrids.
Principaly, the main character is Elena. At the beginning, she’s an arrogant person and a little selfish, because of her popularity. But time after time, she become more sensitive about what is happening around her, as the same for Damon.

L.J.Smith succeeded to evolve the story and keeping our attention, and stretch out the suspense. Her books are worth reading by everyone, and should not only concerned teenagers, but EVERYONE.

Finally, a TV Show have been created about the books, in 2009, and even if the show has the same title of novels, it’s completely different, and really interesting to watch. It’s realised by Julie Plec, and the main actors are Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder.

MISERY – Stephen King

I’m going to speak about Misery, a film based of a novel by Stephen King. The novel was published in 1987 and was adapted to the cinema in 1990.

In this film, a writter is welcomed after an accident by a fan. This fan lives in an isolated house. He notices very quickly that this fan is not normal and that she has mental disorders. Paul Sheldon, the writter, will go through hell with this woman who is called Anne Wilkes.

I liked so much this film because it is a psychological thriller. Stephen King is an author who knows frighten the reader and the viewer. In this novel, the description of the madness is very interresting.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Ken Kesey

Many people know the 1975 film called « One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest », which is really a great movie -as well as an award-winning movie- starring the impressive actor Jack Nicholson.
However, did you know that this film was based on a novel ?

This 3 million copy bestelling novel by Ken Kesey tells the story of Randle McMurphy, a recidivist criminal who could do anything to avoid prison… Even to pass himself off as a mentally ill person!
The story begins as he is institutionalized in an asylum. In this place,he discovers the patients, such as Chestwick, who turns red and cries when nobody agrees with him,“Rub-a-Dub George”, a very tall man who has an intense phobia of dirtiness, the shy and young Billy who is afraid of his mother, as well as Chief Bromden, a dumb and deaf American Indian who shows himself to be promising at playing basketball… He discovers human-beings, who beyond their insanity , are also extremely endearing and moving.
Rebel against the rules established by the authoritative Big Nurse and her dictatorship, Randle McMurphy decides to revolutionize their little world…

This novel eplores themes like rebellion against conformity through an extremely powerful story and it made a deep impression on me.

I promise you it is not going to make you snore!

Predestination

Predestination is an Australian film directed by Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig. It released in 2014. It’s a science fiction movie but also a thriller. It is the adaptation of the novel You zombies (All You Zombies) by Robert A. Heinlein published in 1959.

A temporal agent specialized in the fight against crime is caught in a series of time travel, intended to perpetuate forever his action as representative of the law. During his last mission, he must recruit a younger version of himself to replace to ensure continuity for all time in his career. For his ultimate mission, the agent must address the only criminal who has always eluded him.

But this movie is more complicated than this… But I can not say anything more, we must look this film to discover ALL the story. For me, the story is really well built and very original. Many endings that suprise, we do not expect anything and we are very attentive to the film from beginning to end. That’s one of my favorite since I watched it. This is not a common kind of movie to others, there is something special in it that makes a great result. The duo between Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook is very very convincing. I highly recommend watching this movie, it really surprised me and I liked it very much. A film, which, once completed, we do ask us about this paradox that is the past, present and future.

Angry against his father, Edward since three years, Will Bloom went to his bedside when he falls ill. But Will, believe that it’s just stories invented by his father to flees reality. Yet, even when he’s confronted with death, Edward continues to remember his life as magical events.

I saw this movie in english class during my first year in high school, and I liked it. This is a great mix between the magical worl of adventure that I love, and the realistic world. Thumbs up!

Bel Ami

Bel-Ami is a film directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod and released in 2012. It is the ninth adaptation of the novel by Guy de Maupassant « Bel Ami »

Georges Duroy, ambitious young man and seductive, arrives in Paris driven by the desire to become a wealthy and influential personality. He will climb the social ladder as fast as his journalism career takes off. But how far is he willing to go to increase its ascent?

More than a century after the publication of the novel, the themes of Bel-Ami written by Maupassant are always a hot topic. For me the adaptation is too respectful ! However, Robert Pattinson offers us a very convincing as Georges Duroy because he is attractive! Too bad that the film has failed to show the great modernity of the novel.

Bridget Jones diary’s, film directed by Sharon Maguire

Bridget Jones diary’s is based on the book by Helen Fielding.                                        It’s a British romantic comedy film, released in 2001, stars with famous actors like Renée Zellweger as Bridget, Hugh Grant as Daniel Cleaver and Colin Firth as Marc Darcy.                                                                                                                                   This film is one of my favorite romantic comedy because of the excellent dramatic performances and the plot pleased me.                                                           What also pleased me is that Bridget is an awkward and frustated character, where the spectators can identify and compare themselves as Bridget’s attitude.                   She illustrates the lifestyle of an early thirties woman, both love and career, where she has to make decision which will have consequences on her life and her state of mind where she will learn of her errors and will restore a well-being.

And you ? What are your feelings about this film ?

Safe Haven

It is an american movie directed by Lasse Hallström and based on the book written by my favorite author who is Nicholas Sparks.

The arrival of Kate changes the life of Alex who lives in Southport, a peaceful village. She moves in Southport, a small town by the sea and meets Alex who lost his wife. He has two childrens. Kate and Alex fall in love but the mysterious past of the woman brings her back to reality : she is wanted by a policeman, the same policeman that she sees in her flashbacks. He is determined to find her.

Throughout the movie, we see flashbacks in the same time she sees it, but we don’t understand who is the people in her flashbacks, what they are doing, why they are doing it,… Gradually, we discover the past of Kate.

I really like this movie. Have you ever seen it?

Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption

Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption is a novel written by Stephen King and published in 1982, far from The Shinning, closer to The Green Mile.

Andy Dufresne is arrested for the double murder of his wife and her lover. He is sent to Shawshank Prison for life. In this establishment, Andy meets Red, a prisoner who is specialized in procuring items from the outside world. Andy will undergo difficult trials during his imprisonment. The prison director, Samuel Norton, needs him to care for his shady business. But when Andy sees taking shape the opportunity to become free from the testimony of a new prisoner, Norton causes the assassination of the young man because he fears to see his fraud come to light when « his banker » is released. Thus, Andy will be discreet to better prepare his escape.

There is an adaptation of this novel directed in 1994 by Frank Darabont with Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins. But the film was a commercial failure because of a topic not very attractive and no head liners. Yet, it was included in the American Film Institute’s 100 Years…100 Movies 10th Anniversary Edition. James Whitmore is upsetting in the role of Brooks, an old prisoner accustomed to this universe and living badly his rehabilitation in society. Must be seen !

You can see the trailer here for more details on this film:

« I Killed My Mother »

I would like to speak about a great movie, entitled « I Killed My Mother ».

I Killed My Mother is a Quebec autobiographical film (a biopic) written and directed by Xavier Dolan, and released in 2009. Xavier Dolan is a young actor, director, screenwriter and Canadian producer and I Killed My Mother is his first movie. Through this film, Xavier Dolan expresses the conflicting relationship he had with his mother. The film is autobiographical in the sense that the young Quebec uses the cinema, so a fiction, to address a malaise that he really lived and felt in his youth. Indeed, in this film, Hubert Minel (played by Xavier Dolan himself), a young teenager, lives alone with his mother Chantal, and throughout the film, he shows us the degradation of their relationship. This film is a testimony to the relationships that can exist between a mother and her son, and Xavier Dolan is trying to convey a message to his mother. In fact, he tries to express his desire to reconnect with her, resolve conflicts between them. During the film, we realize that this is unfortunately impossible since there is a real gap between them, they are too different. Several shots show Hubert shooting himself and expressing the hatred he feels for his mother and she finds the video and realizes the large amount of conflicting feelings her son can feel for her. We can suggest that the purpose of the film is the same: to show to his mother all he could feel as teenager. This film is very interesting since the director clearly gives his personal vision of the relationship he had with his mother and he told us about his personal experiences during his adolescence (boarding school, homosexuality, etc).

I think this film corresponds to the notion studied because one can say that Xavier Dolan uses the movie theater as a tribune to convey ideas and a retrospective of his life. Through this film, he gives us a part of his private life (as it could have done in a diary). Enjoy !

Little miss sunchine by Jonathan Dayton and Velrie Faris (2006)

Little Miss Sunshine is an American film directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris in 2006.

This film talks about characters with surprising sensitivity. It focuses on Richard Hoover overworked speaker, Sheryl a touching mother, as well as specialist Franck Proust who attempted suicide after his lover broke up with him and brother of Sheryl. There is also a very strange character described in this film it is Dwayne also fan of Nietzsche, he does a vow of silence for nine months to realize his dream of joining the United States Air Force Academy to become a test pilot and he communicates with a notepad.
Sheryl‘s father is he a rude person, a veteran of World War II, expelled from a nursing home where he was staying for use and sale of heroin. He lives with the family.
And finally, this film particularly tells the story of Olive seven years, wanting to miss a contest.
The characters find a nice balance between laughter and emotion.
Thus, this film is a comical escape, an impromptu group therapy, wild and traveling.
This is why I recommend it. It allows you to relax and it is a very good comedy!

Did you know that Kim Jong-Un loves Katy Perry ?

Today, I decided to talk about an american film called The Interview. Directed by Seth Rogen in 2014, starring himself, James Franco and Randall Park, The Interview is a comedy in which the host of the talk show Skylark Tonight and his producer have to kill the famous Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un. In fact, The Interview isn’t a cinema masterpiece, but I found it interesting because It is a topicality.

Kim Jong-Un, born in 1983, son of Kim Jong-Il is the leader of North Korea (since december 2011). Officially, his government is not considered as a dictatorship, but unofficially, it is. At only 28, he became the « Supreme Leader of North Korea ». Some people said that he’d even tried to kill his step brother, to show who is « the boss » in North Korea. Like the previous leader of North Korea, he’s against South Korea, United States, and every country which agreed with it.

Moreover, even if the people of North Korea are starving, the « Supreme Leader of North Korea » is very fond of good food and luxury. Like his father and grand father, Kim Jong-Un use propaganda in an excessive way. The Interview shows it really well, because, when Aaron Rapaport and Dave Skylark enters in North Korea, they meet Sook-yin Park (minister of propaganda).
Kim Jong-Un is also known for the high number of executions, and for the concentration camps.

The Interview‘s release was very debated. In fact, after the release of the trailer, Kim Jong-Un asked the ONU to punished Rogen and Franco. He started to boycott the film. Sony (owner of Columbia) was victim of cyber attacks, and threatened by (probably) the North Korean government.

Insurgent

Hi everybody ! Today, i decided to talk about Insurgent (wich is the sequel of Divergent). First, i know that you will probably hate me, but Divergent bored me a lot, i fell asleep in front of this film.. I think this is because of the same long action. BUT one day my friends propose me to go to cinema for watching the second part, i couldn’t say no. So, I went. And here.. I just loved Insurgent ! I found every characters more and more interesting than we understand the clue of the movie. Shailene Woodley’s playing is just wonderful, i lived her emotions, her fear, sadness.. With her.

I was so surprised by this ! Actions and events of this movie are really really fascinating, i didn’t expect that, for being honest with you. So, please, don’t hit me.

I think you should watch Insurgent, even if you didn’t like Divergent. I did the experience, Insurgent is really really nice !

Bowling for Columbine

Last year, I published an article about the book « Hate List » which deals with a killing in a school.

Now I want to speak about « Bowling for Columbine », a movie directed by Michael Moore in 2002, which deals with the same subject as the book : the shooting (here) in Columbine school.

Students of TL1 know this film director because we watched « Fahrenheit 9/11 » with our Philosophy teacher.

This movie is a documentary which criticizes american society. In fact, it denounces the fact that if there are many homicides by firearm in America, it’s because we can own one easily. Michael Moore plays the role of a kind of Candide, who pretends interview people innocently.

This movie is a good denunciation of the ease of obtaining arms in America, you should watch it !

Orange Is The New Black

« Orange Is The New Black » is a TV show directed by Jenji Kohan since 2013. There are 2 seasons and it’s « dramatic comedy ». Recently I’ve learnt this series is based on the autobiography « Orange Is The New Black : My Year in a Women’s Prison » written by Piper Kerman.
This series tells the story of Piper Chapman who is for 15 months in a women’s prison because 10 years earlier she had been carrying a drug case.  In this series the homosexuality and the place of women in society are present with humor and irony.

I love this series. I recommend it ! Moreover I’m going to read the autobiography written by P. Kerman. So I would like write an other article about this book and « Je de l’écrivain et jeu de l’écriture ».

The Peaky Blinders

The Peaky Blinders is a TV serie (directed by Steven Knight) which represents as much as possible, for me, the attractive and very British atmosphere in the small villages of  19th century. In my opinion, this mixture of darkness, rain, and dust is a great background for a serie.

This one is based upon the story of a criminal group named « The Peaky Blinders » and living in Small Heath in the 19th century. They were very violent and numerous. They had scars and frightened their enemies with razor blades hidden in their cap…This story offered a good beginning.

This universe, with its poverty, underlined violence of the gang in the serie but also the poetry and the beauty which can be hidden in every place, even in the dark streets of a miserable village, cold and dirty. Here, you can see how the pictures are incredibly well brought under control :

I can’t help being fond of this serie, it’s a real treasure, and you should see it if you’re attracted by British culture and history : here is a wonderful mix of real facts and poetry.

Mr Nobody

It’s a drama movie, about a science fiction and chronicles of the life, written and directed by Jaco Van Dormael in 2009. The story of the movie is about Nemo Nobody, playing by Jared Leto, aged to 118 years old. He’s the last mortal human in a world where the immortality is possible for humans. Throughout the movie we discovered the differents life of Nemo. Moreover it’s a biographic movie of Jaco Van Darmael and he has received a prix for that.

With differents flashback, we discover his life but Nemo has confus remembrances. Also if he doesn’t like his life , he can changed her with a come back in the past. It’s the butterfly effect. This movie wants us to think about the importance of our choices and their consequences. « If you never make a choice, everything is possible »

I recommend this film for these actors and mainly for his psychological impact.

Anecdote about Jared Leto : This actor likes transformations, for Mr Nobody, he is turns into old person, also in Chapter 27 where he’s the murderer of John Lennon. He had to take 28kg for this role.

Cast Away

Today i’m going to speak about Cast Away who is a adventure drama film directed by Robert Zemeckis. In this film, Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) a FedEx employee, is stranded on an uninhabited island and tries to survive after his plane crashed in the South Pacific. This film is very interesting because we really share the routine of the character on the island, as his deceptions, his daily problems… Despite those negatives points, there is funny moments as when Chuck talks to Wilson a volley-ball. Wilson is Chuck Noland’s personified friend. In my opinion « Cast Away » is a really good film, because we can seen the character’s evolution all along the story: at the beginning we have a poor, lonely characters who is overtaken by the events he lives. And at the end we have a little bit foolish character (who has a volley-ball as partner of island’s escape). And to finish I think this story is a readaptation of « Robinson Crusoe », indeed Tom Hanks reminds us a modern version of Robinson. I advice this film !

The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz by L.Frank Baum

Lyman Frank Baum is an amercian writer of the 20’s century mostly known for his children’s books. He had writen in 1900 a novel intitled The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz which tells the story of Dorothee a young girl who lives in Kansas and who is taken away with is house by a tornado and arrived in a wonderful country called Oz. She have to find a wizard to come back home in Kansas. It’s quiet an initiatory journey in a way because the character, Dorothee, is taken to an unknown place and she have to face many dificulties in the aim of returning home.

This story has been adapted on screen in 1939 into a musical directed by Victor Fleming staring with Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr… This movie had totally take inspiration into the novel.

There is also a new adaptation of it that had been done quiet recently and which is a prequel of the first movie and novel. It’s intitled Oz, the Great and Powerful and had been directed by Sam Raimi. The four principal characters are interpreted by James Franco, Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis and Rachelle Weisz.

I have seen both of those movies and I like both of them because they are actually very different, the first is a singing movie and it looks to be especially made for a children’s audience but in the second the director has played on the special effects to give a beautiful image.

The possession

The film  is a Canadian-American horror film directed by Ole Bornedal, released in 2012.

Clyde and Stephanie Brenek see no reason to worry when their youngest daughter Emily becomes strangely obsessed with a small wooden box purchased at a garage sale. But soon, his behavior becomes more aggressive and suspicious father the presence of a malevolent force around him. He then discovers that the box was created to contain a dybbuk, a spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

The film is pulled on a « real- true story »…                                                                             This wooden chest gave him the name « dybbuk ». It was for a Polish family and after giving from hand to hand, it was won at auction by Kewin Mannis in 2003. The trunk contained a lot of personal items. According Mannis, it would have taken violent nightmares like the former owners of the dybbuk, each of which also reported that they felt a cat urine odor or jasmine flower near the trunk. Iosif Neitzke was the last person has won this auction mysterious wooden box. The dybbuk was the cause of his health problems (unexplained hair loss, hives, cough with bleeding welts from head to foot). Neitzke kept a blog where he told all his misadventures, a blog to it by a certain Jason Haxton who decided one day to help Neitzke by using a rabbi to re-seal the evil spirit in the trunk. Apparently successful, Haxton has decided to hide the dybbuk we never find him.
The story is not insane, we stay on the beaten track . It’s a pleasant film that will appreciate as well at home to pass the time I think the big screen bringing nothing here. We are far from the level of intensity of classic adjusted to the millimeter. A feature that works on the Paranormal activity series of flower beds with a small budget ($ 14 million) for a very good return on investment.
The film is good and meets our expectations, because you risk to feel uncomfortable in front of some scenes.

Sylvia by Christine Jeffs (2003)

This movie shows the story of the famous writer : Sylvia Plath and her husband Ted Hugues. It begins when the author meets her husband and it finish by the Sylvia’s suicide. It’s a beautiful movie I have seen it and I recommend it (in particular to understand our text in class).

Fight Club by David Fincher

I recently watched this movie (yesterday) and I’m still shocked by the incredible plot !

Don’t worry I’ll not spoil the story but I’ll try to explain in the better way…

The narrator and main character (Edward Norton) is a man who live alone, sleep alone in spite of his numerous insomnia, who work alone, eat alone just like a lot of people in the world. After participating in several anonymous meeting to help peolple who suffre from a cancer, a tuberculosis or others serious diseases, he finally meets Tyler (Brad Pitt): a handsome man, clever, beautiful, nonconformist and rebel. Thanks to him he will learn to live instead of just exist as a pawn of the society. They will creat the « Fitgh Club » an illegal club of boxing.

But at a moment, this odd association will turn into a kind of terrorist activities…

Until which point this story will ended ?

Suspense…

I really advise you to watch this movie, the film technics are just incredibly amazing and the actors play in a way I never seen before. David Fincher is definitly a God of cinema for my opinion !

The Iron Lady

The Iron Lady

The Iron Lady is a British-French biopic directed by Phyllida Lloyd dedicated to Margaret Thatcher and released in the United Kingdom on 16 December 2011.

Throughout the film, we have Margaret Thatcher’s point of view. With Alzheimer’s disease, she is confused and remembers moments of her life. There is a cross editing between the present, where she is eighty years old and memories from her youth to her resignation as Prime Minister. This film is interesting because it gives us a different perspective on it, enough staff, which allows us to approach this controversial figure in a more human way and understand why one gives her the nickname Iron Lady (symbol of firmness). However, this film also enables us to know her intimate life and not stop at the image she gave as Prime Minister. Through her point of view, we understand the nature of her struggle: the daughter of a grocer (from a popular middle), she fought all her life to climb the social ladder and engage in politics. She is the only woman on the head of the Conservative Party and who has been Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, making it the longest uninterrupted term. The film reveals the origin of her conservative convictions, which came in part from her father. Margaret Thatcher is often represented as an authoritarian political figure, which doesn’t take into account public opinion, whereas this film presents this woman as a mother, wife, having weaknesses. For example, we can notice that she may be too ambitious and she was not really present for her children and her hustband. Finally, early in the film, we see a book she signs, which is her autobiography.

It would be interesting to compare her vision of her career in her autobiography with the vision offered by this film. I suggest you to watch it!

Into the Woods

Into the Woods is an american musical movie directed by Rob Marshall in 2014. It is an adaptation of a 1986 homonymous musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine.

There is a witch who puts a curse on a baker’s father. Since this curse, he and his wife can’t have a child. So, to have a child, he must give a white cow (Jack’s cow), a golden shoe (Cinderella’s shoe), a red cape (Little Red Riding Hood’s cape) and yellow hair (Rapunzel’s hair) to the witch. All these components are used for doing a magic potion which returns beauty and youth’s witch.

All these characters have a dream : Cinderella wants to go to ball, Rapunzel hopes for going out of her tower, Jack wants to keep his cow and discover the world, the Red Riding Hood desires to see her grandmother, the baker wants to have a child.

Wishes are granted but there are consequences…

This movie received the American Film Institute Awards 2014.

Have you ever seen this film?

American Sniper

American Sniper is an American war film directed by Clint Eastwood and released in 2015. It is the adaptation of the homonymous autobiography US sniper and former member of the SEALs Chris Kyle.

That’s the story of man named Chris Kyle, Sniper Navy SEAL who is sent to Iraq for one purpose: to protect his comrades. His art fire saves countless lives on the battlefield, while the tales of his exploits multiply, he earned the nickname « The Legend ». However, his reputation spreads beyond enemy lines, so that his head is a price and it becomes a prime target for insurgents. Despite the danger, and anxiety in which his family lives, Chris participates in four decisive battles of the most terrible war in Iraq, winning as well as the living embodiment of the motto of the SEAL: « No quarter! « But returning home, Chris realizes that he can not return to normal life.

For me, this is a beautiful movie which create a lot of emotions to the spectator. This movie really touched me. Clint Eastwood is primarily based its mastery of staging. I really recommended this movie for everyone! it is very touching but also very rewarding.

The Shawshank Redemption

The Shawshank Redemption is an american movie, directed by Frank Darabont, released September 10, 1994.

This film was inspired by the new Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption written by Stephen King.

Main actors : Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman

Summary : In 1947, an American banker named Andy Dufresne, is found guilty of murdering his wife and her lover with whom she was cheating on him. He was sentenced to two life prison terms, and finds himself trapped in the federal penitentiary in Shawshank. He befriends with a black prisoner, named Red. It will remain 19 years in prison before escaping because thanks to Tony (a prisoner will be killed by the Director) he knows he really is innocent and has nothing to do here.

I loved this film and hope that this summary will make you want to watch it.

Arrow

« Arrow » is a American serie, created in 2012 by Andrew Kreisberg,Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim and diffused on TF1 in 2014.

In this serie, we can follow the adventures of a billionaire called Oliver Queen, allias «The Arrow». This character is based on the DC Comics’s Super Hero Green Arrow.

Oliver Queen a billionaire, playboy and selfish man. He’s living in Starling City. (a ficticious city created by DC Comics)

But one day, when he was on a boat with his father and his lover, the sister of his fiancée, he was shipwrecked. On a lifeboat, his father told to him that he have failed their city and gave to him a notebook, then he suicides.

After that Oliver arrived on an island and spend 5 years alone. During this time, he learn how to fight and how to use a bow.

He fand a way to go home, and he have only one goal, to « save his city ».

To do this he «became someone else, something else». He became the arrow and armed with a bow, he tracks all the bad peoples who makes illegual money and he gives their fortune to poor, like a modern Robin Hood.

Because this serie is created by DC Comics we can see many many other super heroes too.

DC Comics created many other interesting series like « Constantine » « Gotham » , « The Flash » or films like « Man Of Steal »

Arrow respects the spirit of the comic book, I advise this serie that is a good mix between action, romance and adventure.

Broken Arrow

I would like you to see the film Broken Arrow directed by Delmer Daves in 1950 because it’s really a beautiful film on a black period in the USA History.
It is inspired from a novel written by Elliott Arnold, moreover this is a true story that occurred in 1870.
In 1870, Jeffords, after a demobilization, was called to Tucson to be the superintendent of a mail line that later became a part of the famous Pony Express system. After some of his mail riders were killed by Apaches, he rode alone  into the camp of Cochise to parley, without arms and a white flag in his hand . This bravery  impressed the chief so much that he became friend and blood brother to Jeffords, accepting that his mail riders crossed the area safely.
James Stewart embodied Tom Jeffords and Jeff Chandler Cochise. The film was shot in Sedona, the famous area in Arizona where numerous Hollywood’s films were shot because of the beauty of its red rocks.
But the true story took place further south in the Dragoon mountains where Cochise, the famous Apache war chief lived.
 Broken arrow
James Stewart’s voice over introduces the film. He explains that he was prospecting for gold when suddenly some buzzards circling in the sky suggested him that there was some trouble in store.
These first shots are very interesting. Let’s go and compare the 4th  and the 8th :
in the 4th one, Tom Jeffords on his horse in the foreground is placed over the Native who is seen as a victim. This is a high angle shot, whereas in the 8th one the Native is over Tom Jeffords and is seen through a low angle shot. Paradoxically Tom Jeffords doesn’t take advantage of his superiority in the 4th shot and decides to attend the young Native who is wounded on his back (that underlines how cowardly those who tried to kill him were…) .
Paradoxically the young Native American doesn’t take advantage of his superiority in the 8th shot and decides to give Tom Jeffords a gift gratefully and to protect him against his own tribe.
It illustrates very well how the film is going to deal with the birth of an incredible friendship between Tom Jeffords and the Apaches.
Tom Jeffords noticed that the Native Americans were generous, grateful, loyal, that they had the sense of honor,  that they indeed shared very important values with Tom Jeffords
Unfortunately all American people were not like Tom Jeffords at that time, and Delmer Daves definitely wanted to pay  tribute to this man who tried to understand Native Americans.

LOST

I want to talk about Lost, an american TV series.

Flight 815 of Oceania crashes on a tropical island in the Pacific. We follow the story of the survivors who discovered that this island was the scene of a scientific project named Dharma. On this Island there are unknown monsters, hostile savages and intense magnetic activity, etc … The survivors will then organize and live together in peace.

I chose to talk about Lost because I think it would be interresting to compare with Lord of the Flies. I have seen some part of the series and I will finish it and I recommend it!

Movies of january!

In january, I love discovering new movies mainly influenced by the nominations of ceremonies like the Oscars or the Golden Globes. Even if i was extremely disappointed by the Cesars’ nominations in France this year, a lots of films teased my curiosity in this begining of the year. I choose to talk about my two main crushes at the moment:

 • When I heard that the new movie with Benedict Cumberbatch received numerous nominations at the Oscars, I was even more excited to see The Imitation Game. Mr Cumberbatch play the role of Alan Turing, the mathematician who enabled the Allies to defeat the Nazis during the second world war by decrypting a lots of messages written by the Germans. In addition to this incredible story, we can see the position of a man like Alan Turing (who is homosexual) in the english’s society after the war. I’m a huge fan of Benedict Cumberbatch and i have to say that his performance in this film is brilliant, as much as Keira Knightley ( however I am not very impressed by her usual performances).

 • An another movie which is more confidential but also stunning: Whiplash, directed by Damien Chazelle, tells the story of a nineteen-year-old boy who wants to become an icon of Jazz as a drummer. I think it’s the movie to see for jazz fans or just for people who love music and who actually play an instrument because Whiplash is a beautiful illustration of the musician’s work. For now, this movie is my favorite in the race for the award for best picture.

These are just quick reviews of two movies which really Worth the view: I share with you the trailers, in case you want to see what it looks like, and if you have already seen one of these movies are both, don’t hesitate to give your opinion.

The Leftovers

The Leftovers is an American novel published in 2013 by Tom Perrotta and which knows a TV adaptation in Canada on HBO.

The story begins in Mapleton, in october 14th, a little American town three years after the the « Rapture ». The « Rapturet » the disappearance of people on the earth, about two percent. And the title of this novel shows the interest for « the leftovers », those still present.

The novel are focused on the Garvey’s, who are spared by the « Rapture,  and follow their reaction about the « Ravissement ». All have a different reaction, the mother, Laurie, adheres to a sect « Guilty Survivors » who fight against the forget and who doing a vow of silence. Tom, the son, leave his college to rejoin a mystical sect for « save the world ». Jill , his sister, go astray from High School and sink alcohol and drugs. Kevin, the father, search a means to have a normal life, he become mayor and he must to manage the problems of « Rapture ».

All seek to understand and question on the reason of the ‘Rapture ». how survive with the guilt of being a survivor ? Why them and not me ? How continue to live ? The psychological novel show the human mechanism to fight against the unacceptable. we follow the characters with their personality and how they face up to these events.

The atmosphere of the novel is heavy and oppressive, the psychology of the characters are very realistic, even if this novel there aren’t much action, it’s a good psychological novel.

The TV adaptation are co-written by Tom Perrotta, the main character is Justin Theroux (The Father) and Amy Brenneman (the mother). The adaptation is a success, and loyal to the novel.

Millenium

Millenium is a « swedo-danish » thriller movie directed by Niels Arden Oplev and released in 2009. That’s an adaptation from the Millenium trilogy of Stieg Larsson.

Mikael Blomkvist is the redactor of Millenium an investigation and social paper news. One day a man contact him about an inquire given up 40 years ago. With Lisbeth Salander a young rebel orphan woman but clever and brilliant, he tries to figure out the inquire and stop the murderer.

That’s a very good thriller full of suspense with originals characters.

The Red Violin

The Red Violin is an italian-english-canadian drama film directed by François Girard. The story talks about a violinmaker called Nicolo Busotti who finished a violin in 1681. He intends to give this violin to his son who will be born. Unfortunately, his wife Anna dies with the baby during labour. Nicolo falls into a deep sadness and  decides  to varnish his violin with the blood of his dead wife. Thus, the soul of his wife will accompany the destiny of this instrument. During all the film, the violin travels through time from hand to hand to various musicians. Thereafter, in 1997, the violin will be to put up for auction in a company in Montréal. I find it’s a great film with an interesting story and good musical pièces.

The 100

The 100 is a TV show directed by Jason Rothenberg last year. This series tells the story of around 300 people who survived after a third world war. They took refuge in a space shuttle for years since the Earth was uninhabitable because of radiation from nuclear bombs used. However, due to lack of oxygen in the shuttle, residents must come back down to Earth by turning off onto the risk of dying just arrived. They survived, but meet the inhabitants of the Earth returned to almost wild. They are trying to kill them because they feel threatened. In each episode they face many dangers and difficult choices to successfully have peace with the people of the earth.

I think this TV show matches perfectly with the concept of travel, as they discover gradually a new place they do not know.
The first season is not great because they are not enormously actions or twists, I think it’s because it took time to develop the story. But the second season is exciting because there are a lot of actions in a short time.

The Woman in Black.

Hi everyone ! Today, i would like speak about the last movie i saw in cinema : The Woman In Black : Angel Of Death.
This is the second part of The Woman In Black with the famous Harry Potter’s actor : Daniel Radcliffe. (He is a very interessant character in this first film).
The Woman In Black 2 is a supernatural thriller and drama directed by Tom Harper.
The story takes place in the same place than the first movie : in a big mansion in a desert place, surrounded by marshes in the north west of England. This is during the second world war, few orphans are send with two women for leave this environment of chaos and take some rest and education. But, of course, they don’t expect that this cold and (really really) scary mansion is inhabited by an other person. And this isn’t nobody : the woman in black. She is a kind of terrifying dark ghost without clear face. In the first film, we understand finally that she steals children from people who see her and so kill them in terrible conditions. This is very horrible, they are burn or hanged or strangled, things like that. She does this because of her difficult past, someone take her child off her and she assists at his horrible death (he drowned) by a window of the mansion, without can doing anything, then she hanged her and since this moment she’s back for doing the same horror to other people for they lived what she lived with the same fright.
So, personally, i really like watching horror movies (but never alone, of course). And i really enjoyed the first one, and the second is really interessant too, but more scarying than the first ! And this horror movie is really interessant too, thanks to the suspension and the story that we understand not easyly and not quickly. People must use their brain, and this is very cool than an other horror movie with just scream and blood.
Finally, i advised you a lot to watching this movie, but, i warn you.. Even if i watched a lot of horror movies, this one scared me a lot. (I hate you screamers).
And if you saw it, did you enjoy it ? Or are you too funky to do this ?

Scrubs, Toubib or not toubib.

Scrubs is a serie TV, created by Bill Lawrence and broadcasted on NBC (an american chanel) between 2001 and 2008. Afterwards, on the ABC channel between 2009 and 2010.

This serie tells us, the adventures of the staff’s Hospital named « Sacred Heart » and more preciselly that of John Dorian surnamed J.D and played Zach Braff. In spite of his Job: doctor, he is a big kid who lose himself in his thought  rebroadcast by his off voice. He always imagines zany scenes inspired  by the reality which it’s shows on the screen sometimes in the middle of a talk between the characters.

Early in the serie, JD is a young resident who enters the Sacred Heart Hospital, as his best friend and roommate, the apprentice surgeon Christopher Turk. They are accompanied in their first steps in their comrade Elliot Reid, a young brilliant but neurotic woman charm which JD succumbs immediately by Carla Espinosa, a nurse with a strong character who does not leave indifferent Turk. On his first day, JD quickly became the main scapegoat of special concierge hospital. At the same time, he quickly finds a mentor in Dr. Perry Cox, whose perpetual bad mood and work addiction hide its inability to manage his personal life; it is the main bulwark of patients and internal against cynicism director of the Sacred Heart, tyrannical Dr. Robert « Bob » Kelso.

Emblem of the Hospital

The series features a narration in the first person, realy talkative characters, subplots that intertwine, waterfalls, and surreal scenes that represent the daydreams of the characters. Those comic aspects are correct by poignant scenes on the challenges for doctors to manage death and problems in their personal lives. This combination of comic and dramatic elements distinguishes it from other medical dramas such Urgences or Grey’s Anatomy, which is often seen as a pastiche. At the end of most episodes, JD summarizes the moral or the theme of the episode which took place in a series of plans that generally shows how this has affected each character. The series has many references to American popular culture, including movies, books, and other television series. Many are parodied through the many thoughts JD.

From Left to Right: Carla Espinosa, Perry Cox, Elliot Reid, John Dorian, Robert Kelso, Christopher Turk

I find this serie really amusing, funny and sometimes embarassing. So if like this king of series I advise you « Scrubs ».

Imitation game by Morten Tyldum

Last week at the cinema I had the chance to see «  Imitation Game ».
The film takes place during the Second World War.
Alan Turing, mathematician is charged by the British government to discover the secret of the Enigma encryption machine, known like inviolable.  He is at the head of  researchers and linguists. Turing works on the complexity of the machine. He will have decrypt to be able actually decrypt German messages. This machine can lead to the victory of the war.
The film then tells the impressive life of a man who is willing to do anything to change the course of the Second World War and History.
It is also the portrait of a man who found himself condemned by the society of the time because of his homosexuality.
Today the society has changed (and thankfully) but it is a very touching movie, and we go not unscathed.

I found it really touching and really gripping. I was sad when I finished it. We don’t expect the end of the film. It makes feel like living. It is a good lesson of life.

The film was nominated for best film, best actor (Benedict Cumberbatch), best actress in a Supporting Role (Keira Knightley) and  best director for Oscar’s prise.

Thus, the film works well due to the genius of Benedict Cumberbatch and the way he has inhabited Alan Turing’s persona. This is why I advise you, it is currently at the cinema :

Galveston by Nic Pizzolatto

As we are studying the notion of Travelling, Initiatory Journey and Exile in class, I decided to talk about a book I read recently.

It’s a book entitled Galveston, written by Nic Pizzolatto (famous writer and scriptwriter, in particular for the serie True Detective). The book deals with a man, called Roy Cady, a texan « gangster » who kills people on the request of his boss. One day he felt in a trap with a fellow and he succeed to stay alive. Unfortunately a girl was on the crime scene, so he has to keep her with him and they decided to go away from the town and hit the road until Galveston, Roy’s hometown. On the road, the girl, called Rocky wants to take with them her little sister, Tiffany. They finally arrive at Galveston, but the story isn’t ended.

Galveston de Nic Pizzolatto

It’s an interested book because the story is told by a past point of view and also by a present one. In that way it emphasizes the suspence of the plot and it gives a deep dimension to the story. During this road-trip we discover Lousiana and Texas, two wonderful states, amazing landscapes and interesting way of life, so different from ours.

I advise you to read it because the writing style is almost easy and descriptions of landscapes make me dream a lots.

Good reading !

PS: The serie is also amazing and I really advise you to watch it right now, it permits to stpe back about our society and our way of life. The actors are just perfect and the plot is so suspenceful ! 😀 Enjoy

Lord of the Flies : from the book to the movie

After the first cinematographic adaptation of the famous novel by William Golding, Harry Hook, an english director, decided to direct a new cinematographic adaptation of Golding’s novel, in 1990. Even though I never watched the first one, I can say that the adaptation by Hook (we saw in class) is really close to the book. They tried to recreate the universe and the atmosphere of the book and they completly succeed. Some actors are not really close to the characters physical description of the book (like Ralph or Jack), but it is not a problem.

The atmosphere, like in the novel, is really oppresive and increase more and more through the action.

I know that this movie does not pleased everyone, because of the violence reign between these young boys, but personnaly It didn’t bother or disturb me, In fact, I was really concentrated in the way they would retranscribe the book into a movie, and I wasn’t disappointed.

The good news is that, if you want to watch this movie , you can find it on youtube, in english, of course, with english subtitles !

Chocolat

Who don’t we  like  chocolate ? For chocolate addicts I recommend this book, Chocolat. It was published in 2000, written by Jeanne Harris, a british writer.

The story begin in 1959, with the arrival in french village of Viviane and her daughter. The village’s context is complicated, ti is traditional and religious. Viviane decided to restart the confectionery during The Carême (The Lent in English,  a religious celebration  where everyone should fast during 40 days). The village see her as a danger because her chocolate quickly begins to change the lives of people. The Town’s leaders even will accused her to be a witch. On this point it is possible that they were right ?

This book has an adaptation by Lasse Hallström,  a canadian director, in 2001. With famous actors like Juliette Binoche, Johnny Depp, Judi Dench and Alfred Molina. This movie received many awards for the Best ActressSoundtrack Composer of the Year and other.

I recommend this book and this film for the pleasure of senses. So enjoy your meal !

The Walking Dead from comics to TV

Before becoming the well known TV serie staring with Andrew Lincoln, The Walking Dead was a comic books serie created by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore.

These comic books had been first published in 2003 and was at first initled Dead Planet ; it tells the story of a group lead by Rick Grimes, the main character, who tries to survive in an apocalyptic world invaded by zombies.

Warmly acclaim by the critics the comics had finally been adapted to screen into a TV serie directed by Franck Darabont

Fish Tank, a film directed by Andrea Arnold

I would like to speak about Fish Tank, a film directed by Andrea Arnold in 2009. This is the story of Mia, a rebel teenager who lives in a poor area. Her only passion is dance, more precisely hip hop. One day, the arrival of her mother’s boyfriend will change her life. Mia doesn’t know her father, so it’s difficult for her to accept this new man. She is a sad and nervous girl who has a strange link with femininity. She wants to lead a better life and find friendship or love. Through this film, we follow the main character’s evolution.

The subject is presented without so much artifice and the main charater is considered as an “anti-heroe”. The Here, Andrea Arnold uses some elements that belong to the social realism. Indeed, her main character lives in poor suburbs surrounded with waste grounds. Violence, poverty and youth are the themes developed during this film. Framings are clamped, the camera is often carried over the shoulder, we have many subjective points of view which create a proximity with the characters and the environment. With this proximity, the audience can ear Mia’s heart beating and also her respiration. This strengthen the realism. Long shots are only used to show urban landscapes. The depth of field is low so the image is often blurred and also jerky. The camera is in perpetual movement to show that Mia is disturbed and also to translate her feelings. Over framings show that the young girl is really ill-at-ease and she is trapped.

In this film, the main character is often nervous and she is as a fish in his aquarium: she is shut up in her hard destiny and this explain the title of the film. At the beginning, her universe is restricted but when she is more self-confident and when there are interesting opportunities, the space becomes more open and there is an evolution of Mia’s character. The place where the young girl dances symbolize her isolation. Settings seems to be real. More over, much of the actors aren’t professional. All this elements strengthen the realism of the film and the audience believes more in the story.

I advise you to watch this film if you like realistic film!

The adaptations of the novel Richard Matheson’s  » I am Legend «

The novel I’m going to present is a novel whose adaptations are multiple and that was a great success.
« I am legend » is a science fiction novel by the American author Richard Matheson published in 1954. Richard Matheson tells the tragic story of a man who is the only survivor of an epidemic that has transformed all the inhabitants of the planette into horrible monsters that look like a mix between zombies and vampires. Humanity is reached by an evil and that man is immune but despite that it was the world to him, fear and loneliness gnaws him. Richard Matheson establishes in his novel a new society in which the hero of the story is not in his place.

Among all the novels of Richard Matheson, it’s « I am legend » that will generate the most interest of filmmakers. Between 1964 and 2007, four adaptations of this novel have emerged.
« The last man on earth » is the original adaptation of the novel directed by Ubaldo Ragona in 1964, the second adaptationt is that of Boris Sagal realised in 1971 called « The Omega Man » who adapts to the historical backdrop of the Cold War and civil wars. Then, Griff Sagal adaptation called « I am omega » released in 2007 is a Low cost adaptation released one month before the adaptation of Francis Lawrence. It’s this last adaptation called « i am legend » who has that most caught my attention.

It is for me a great post-apocalyptic film that plunges us into a dark and oppressive atmosphere with specatculaire view of New York completely empty. The hero is played by Will Smith who is a epoustouflant actor, and he succeeds to send us all the emotions of a man who is alone on earth. The film could be criticized for its lack of fidelity of the Richard Matheson’s novel, but it’s this modernity that I loved because it passed a society or the hero is not in his place in a society or the hero is the savior of humanity.

Mommy

Mommy is a Canadian film directed by Xavier Dolan and released in 2014. It’s a drama film and it was presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014 and won the Jury Award. This movie is a great success.

That’s the story of a mother and his son. In Canada, a new law appears and allows distressed parents to abandon their troubled children to the hospital system. Diane “Die” Despres, a single mother, must pick her teenage son Steve from the institution where he lives, because he causes several problems and this time, he hurts a little boy who were in the same hospital that him. Steve, who has ADHD, is wild and violent, yet charismatic. At the heart of their problems, they try to make ends meet, thanks to unexpected help from the opposite neighbor, Kyla. All three begin to find an equilibrium shape, and soon hope.

For me, this is a beautiful movie which create a lot of emotions to the spectator. All of this film is great; the story, the various plans, the actors, the music etc… everything is perfectly synchronized. It became one of my favorite movies and I recommend to watch this perfect film!! Xavier Dolan has a real talent and he has also his own style.

]
The work of the director is exceptional but also in other realisations like the clip written and executed by Xavier Dolan for Indochine:

This serie is a little violent but it’s a good historical reconstruction.

« Walk 1700 kilometers in three months »

« Wild » is an American drama film directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, and released in 2014. This is an adaptation of the story of the same name, written by Cheryl Strayed.

After the death of her mother (Laura Dern) and a divorce she didn’t want, the main character, Cheryl Strayed, decided to give herself a challenge: travel 1700 kilometers in three months, alone, on the Pacific Crest Trail, that is to say a hiking linking Mexico to Canada. The idea is to be face with herself to learn how to control his fears, his limits, his past and the ghosts that accompany her. She was addicted to alcohol and hard drugs .. This film is perfectly suited to the concept of initiatory journey because this woman is trying to rebuild herself and decides to make a long hike on the West Coast of the United States. Adventure is challenging: she walks under unbearable heat, in the rain, through a snowy area, crosses rivers, etc.

The landscape through which she passes, are those of Nevada, California, Oregon and Washington. They are very beautiful, really impressive and look like those that can be seen in « Into the Wild » directed by Sean Penn. They are breathtaking too and give constantly the desire to learn more about this famous « Pacific Crest Trail » that 300 people from around the world are trying to make ends every year!

Cast Away

Cast Away is a Robert Zemeckis movie about a voyage and return story. Starring by Tom Hanks, Chuck Noland (What a premonitory name) is a FedEx employee, time-obsessed systems engineer, who travels worldwide resolving productivity problems for his job. While flying through a violent storm, his airplane crashes into the Pacific Ocean, precisely in the south pacific. The film depicts his attempts to survive on the island using remaining parts of his plane’s cargo. He searches for water, food, survivors and opens the packages, finding a number of potentially useful items. He initially tries to signal for rescue and makes an escape attempt with the remaining parts of his life-raft, but he cannot pass the coral reefs surrounding his island. His only friend and rest of civilization on this deserted island that he can talk to is a volleyball ball that he named Wilson and has paint a face on it with his blood.

Wilson

Four years later he is still on the island and have created livable condition. Building a lifeboat he is able to navigate away and come back to civilization. Upon returning to civilization, Chuck learns that he has long been given up for dead and his friends and family had held a funeral. His wife, Kelly has since married Chuck’s dentists (which is comic because, on the island Chuck is obliged to operate himself) and has a daughter. Nothing will remain as before…

I love this movie, I think it is completly extraordinary. Have you ever seen this movie?

The Terminal

I would like to present a poignant and touching film based on a true story.

The real person to whom this tragic event happened is an Iranian called Mehran Karimi Nasseri.

The terminal is an American film directed by Steven Spielberg in 2004. The genre of the film is: Comedy and tragedy.

The main actor is Tom Hanks who is also a great actor.

This is the story of an Iranian tourist, Viktor Navorski, which at the time of registration at a US airport is blocked by the fact that his country, Krakozie just seen its government overthrown, he is considered undesirable for the authorities.
Throughout history, Viktor knows some surprising evolution, it begins to « work » at the premises of the airport to feed, learns to speak American, to make friends or even fall in love with a stewardess air.

A surprising and touching evolution. One can only feel compassion for the character of Viktor, although it must be admitted that to the beginning of the film, doesn’t has a very good grip,I highly recommend it.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Recently, I have seen The Perks of being a Wallflower, directed by Stephen Chbosky. And, I was very surprised to discover a so pleasant film about the teen discontent. Charlie, the main character, comes to the High School. He’s alone, outcast. He’s rejected by others because he’s different. We discover throughout the story that his best friend’s dead, and that he hides a heavy secret about his aunt Isabelle. But Patrick and Sam (his first love), senior students, accept him in their friends group. Thanks to that, Charlie begins to make peace with his past, and to become more confident. Thus, he starts to be really happy.

What I loved in this movie is the optimistic vision of life, I mean, this film gives us the desire to live. Friendship makes us feel more alive despite the past we could know. Personnally, if you are sad, watch this flm, even if there is paradoxically a kind of melancholy, of nostalgia which creates the story.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is an american film directed by Milos Forman, released in 1975. This film tells us the story of Randle McMurphy, a man accused of rape and who decided to go to psychiastric hospital instead of going in prison. The role of a man who day after days fall into madness is perfectly interpreted by Jack Nicholson.

Little House on the Prairie

Yes I know that this story is not the highest in American Literature but is for me a part of my youth ! In « The Little House On The Prairie » Laura Ingalls tells us her story  in the point of view of a teenager and later as an adult. Determined to tell her story, story that Michael Landon has freely adapted into a TV series. Started in 1974, his legendary series has gobbled up the real Laura, embodied by Melissa Gilbert in an avalanche of stupidity.

But let’s get back to the beginning, in 1930. The United Sates  entered in the recession when the real Laura decided to write  her memories, from a small farm in Missouri where she lived with her husband Almanzo. Around sixty, she decided to revisite her youth and celebrated the independence. Rejecting with strength the New Deal of  president Roosevelt. The manuscript, Pioneer Girl, considered too dry and too dark, is refused. That show that the real story is not only about running cheerfully in the meadow !

P.S : Nellie Oleson never existed !

Laura Ingalls

Kenneth Branagh: his passion for Willy

No, Kenneth Branagh isn’t only the Defence Against the Dark Arts instructor Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Chris Columbus, 2002), he is also a great director… Especially when he adapts William Shakespeare!

During his career, Kenneth Branagh adapted five plays written by the famous playwright, beginning with Henry V in 1989, and followed by Much Ado About Nothing (1993), Hamlet (1996), Love’s Labour’s Lost (2000) and As You Like It (2007). He can be considered as the greatest admirer of the playwright…

If the first three adaptations was enormous success all other the world, it isn’t the case for the others. The director wanted to modernize Shakespeare, but it was a fiasco, especially for the film directed by in 2000 (he turns into a romantic Hollywood musical). But the others productions have the merit to be predominant adaptations of playwright’s work, with many distinctions and nominations for an award.

Furthermore, we can find him in Othello, an adaptation directed by Oliver Parker in 1995 with Laurence Fishburne. Kenneth Branagh embodies Iago…

’71 by Yann Demange

On saturday night I went to the cinema, I watched ’71 by Yann Demande. It deals with the war between Ireland and England. I didn’t know a thing about this war, except that it was hard (like any wars in fact …) So I asked Nicolas M and now I know a lot of things, but what ever, it’s not the subject.

So the story takes place in Belfast in 1971. The main character, Gary Hook, a young english soldier is send to the front on Belfast. Attacks and violence spread terror in the city and children waged war too. During a mission, Gary is abandonned by his team and he was alone and without any help. He will have to come back in his military base.

I was attracted by this movie because there were a lot of good press critics, they said that the movie switched into a thriller. In that way, I was amazed by several shoot: When Gary is chase by Irish man throughtout houses, we follow him as if we were running with him. Morevover the lights are very present and use in differents way: the sunset, the risesun, the lights of the city, the fire… It symbolises a kind of hope in the middle of war. I also noticed esthetism and I found that the director shoots well and actors play with such credibility whici is very rare at that time !

I advise you to watch it, except if you have a sensitive soul !

O Brave New World

In english class we read a novel written by Aldous HUXLEY in 1932. His novel « Brave New World » is an anticipation novel and dystopia. The story takes place in 2495; a group of students are visiting under the supervision of the director of the Center (DHC).

as we studied an extract in which the DHC present his aim, to produce buds (8 to 96 buds which produces 8 to 96 adults), I discovered several adaptations in the American TV: in 1980 Burt Brinckerhoff directed Brave New World and Le Meilleur des mondes was produced by Leslie Libman et Larry Williams in 1998.

I think I will watch these movies because it could be interesting

 » Unbroken «

Unbroken is film directed by Angelina Jolie and released in 2014. The story is based on the novel by Laura Hillenbrand. This is the biography of the famous Olympian Louie Zamperini, who lived from 1917 to 2014.

The film describes the fate of this Olympic runner and hero of the Second World War. His plane crashed at sea in 1942, killing eight crew members and leaving three survivors on a lifeboat where two of them survived for 47 days before being captured by the Japanese navy and sent a camp for prisoners of war. His journey is admirable, he always displaying courage and loyalty even during moments of great suffering. He was a man of great integrity. All his life he recalled the memory of his races. He had a mind of steel. His story end well because at the end of the war he finds his family and friends, and he devoted to God. He finally ran at the Olympic games in Japan in 1980, at the age of 80 years old.

28 Days Later

It’s a horror and science fiction movie directed by Danny Boyle in 2002.

One day Jim wake up in a hospital of London. All the city seems to be abandonned. In fact London has been evacuated because a dangerous virus which transforms people in a kind of enraged zombie, spread everywhere in the city. The virus is the result of a bad genetic manipulation of scientists.

During all the film we travel around London with a group of survivors whose trying to escape from contamined peoples.

This movie is not on only about zombies because we share the fear of characters. And even if it’s an horror and science fiction movie, we can think that’s 28 days later is realistic in numerous points.

Don’t talk about the Fight Club!

The time has come to talk about a movie which I can call « an experience »: Fight Club!!

Since the release of Gone Girl in October, I remembered how much I admire David Fincher and how much I love all his movies, without any exceptions: Panic Room, Se7en, the Social Network…(and don’t forget the amazing House of Cards). However, Fight Club doesn’t occupy the same place in my heart, Fight club is above these movies, it’s an outlet, an inspiration.

First, I love the screenplay (the movie is adapted from the eponymous novel of Chuck Palahniuk which is my favourite book of all time): The story is divided in 3 major acts: In the begining, we discover the narrator and his boring life, his boring job and his boring apartment described as an Ikea catalog. His sad life seems to finally brighten when he meets the nonconformist Tyler Durden that will teach him how to live without the consumer society’s dictates. They decides together to create the Fight Club to help others man who also looking for an outlet. Unfortunatly, the narrator wil doesn’t be able to control the hundreds of fight clubs which emerged throughout the country and which begin to commit terroristes acts against symbols of the consumer society.

I love the choice of the interpreters (Fincher knows definitely how to choose his actors): Brad Pitt, Helena Bonham Carter, Jared Leto, EDWARD NORTON!!! seriously, it’s the best cast I ever seen in my entire life. And the character’s construction… Wow! The character’s construction is incredible, you just have to look at the link between Tyler and the narrator ( if you saw Fight Club, you know what I am talking about). The Relationship between Marla and Tyler is also very well done, with all her ambiguity.

Some people thinks that this movie extols the acts of rebellion and the violence but it’s precisely the opposite that the movie stands up for: the last scene shows how much this acts are useless and that it’s not the destruction which is important: it’s the reconstruction. I think it’s a beautiful way of think when we see the tragic events which happened lately

The Silence Of The Lambs

Hi everybody !
Today i ‘m gonna talk about « The Silence Of The Lambs ». I saw this beautiful movie during last holiday with one of my friend.

First, i was a little bit scared by watching this film, because a lot of my friends or family told me it is very horrible and interesting. I didn’t know how i will appreciate this Jonathan Demme’s movie. But finally, we watched the  movie. Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter is so much fascinating and worrying ! We were totally absorbed by the movie. I give you my summary :

Clarice Starling is a FBI agent. She must stop Buffalo Bill who is a terrible women murderer. But she can’t do this without the help of Hannibal Lecter, a former psychiatrist (and cannibalistic psychopath..) who is closed in jail since 8 years for understanding the final purpose of Buffalo Bill. Then a strange relationship will born between Clarice and Hannibal..

So this movie is really, really interesting
The tension, disgust, fascination is ubiquitous. This movie is really nice, i recommend you to watch it if you haven’t yet ! (But not for sensitive soul i’m sorry !)

A.I. Artificial Intelligence by Steven Spielberg

I want to talk about A.I. Artificial Intelligence by Steven Speilberg. I saw this movie during the holiday on Paramount Chanel .

The scene takes place in a futuristic world, when global warming makes the ice melting. Humans made robots who answer to their needs. A couple whose his son (Martin) is sick, ask to have another son, the time that his son heals. So the technology gives their a robot son (named David). But Martin heals, and David becomes useless. So the mother abandons him in the forest. David would to become a real little boy for his mother accepts him. He will search the Blue Fairy (like in Pinocchio) to the end of the earth and discover why he exists.

It’s a very touching film, very beautiful and I sincerely recommed it ! You will cry at the end !
