Observe and describe – Damien Hirst “Mother and Child”
First, anticipate from the title. What sort of artwork are you likely to describe? What may it have been inspired from? Pay attention to the key-words. What kind of issues may it criticize or draw attention to?
Pair work – Discuss one of the following statements with your partner:
1) “Everything has already been invented so it is no longer possible to be original these days.”
2) “Today, originality rhimes with obscenity. You have to shock viewers to stand out.”
3) “Originality doesn’t boil down to uniqueness. An original idea can be shared by millions of people.”
4) “What you create is always original because you are unique and when you let your true self express itself during the creative process, you necessarily end up creating something original.”
